Default How to identify an LT1 block?

My friend just bought what he thinks is a 96 LT1. All he got is a block, with the pistons, rods, and crank still installed. It's got a lot of carbon on it and some rust...pretty rough shape, but he got a good deal and seems to think building it up will be easy.

Anyway, the number "327" is cast into the block. Is this just some type of casting mark? Or does this mean anything towards the displacement of the motor? I would like to post some pictures, but am unable to get them hosted right now. Let me know if you'd like to see them and I'll email them to you. We'd like to know if he got ripped off.

Thanks

327 is the LT1 Casting #....Lt1 buildup is easy especially from the point you are starting at...a good Port job and the right cam and maybe a forged piston will put the car 12.0's with the right gear selection..

What will the motor be going into.....hopefully he's planning to keep it fuel injected...if he wants a carb on top, stick with an old 350, its a cheaper build
