Default Need help wiring up autometer gauge

Have a 95 z28.. bought a mechanical water temp gauge. I i want to wire up my gauge light so when I turn my headlights on or dash lights it will come on as well.. basically I rather just tie into a fuse area near drivers side door.. here is a diagram of fuse panel.. what fuse would I use..I don't want the light on all the time it's only at night time I want it to light up.. I know plenty of spots to get a 12v source just little lost on where I could tie it in for my dash lights

won't work tieing in power from fuse for light to come on when the headlights come on. You need to tap into either the switch itself or any part of the common wire that jumps all your dash lights. I don't have a FSM for a F-body to look at a wiring diagram.

You can tap into that fuse panel to get +12 vdc when key is on for the meter. They sell those piggy back fuse holder you pull the fuse from the panel, plug that fuse back in and the extra slot is for whatever you want 12vdc for. Just use a 3 amp fuse in it for the meter power. Just probe the panel for a key on power on fuse. I used cruise control

I just did this in my B-body, the wire was a grey one someone told me to probe for. Just get one of those 18 awg wire tap terminals. No solder needed

Couldn't he just tap into/piggyback off the wire coming from the dimmer fuse? I thought that's what I did for my Autometer Gauges. If I have time tonight, I'll pull it out to verify. It's been awhile.

A simple probe with a test light or DVM would tell you. You can use the fuse piggy back lead with it plugged into the Dimmer fuse location to see if it dims or is just "on"

I believe the fuse supports the +12vdc "to" the switch/dimmer, not the output side which "dims".

So a quick test light probe would tell.

For the gauge light I taped into one of the wires under dash that is dash light circuit. For just + 12v for the electronic gauge itself, I did use a piggy back fuse

My gauges dim with the dimmer switch. Trying to get home to how it's wired.

Had a mechanical oil pressure gauge oncet. I just tied off from a wire to the bulb that goes in the ashtray.
