oil pump pickup - not level

oil pump pickup - not level ...and not by a mile, either. Is this normal?
In this pic, block is 100% dead-on level
This is the position of the pickup.
I'm trying to have everything set dead-on to avoid issues down the line. The pump in there is the Melling 10552, and I am replacing it with the 10552ST, so I want to make sure pickup depth is 100%. When I go to set pickup depth, do I choose the lowest-point here or is something weird going on? The mounting surface on the rear cap is also spot-on-level - its the pump body thats off.
