Default Hugger Headers for 383 lt1

thoughts on a shorty hugger headers for a 383 stroker ? how much would it hurt performance vs long tubes or mid lengths.

Longtubes is the only way to go

A lot.

And if you go with the mid-lengths, eventually you'll wish you'd gone with long-tubes.

You spent the dollars to bore/stroke the engine.....you should let it inhale **AND** exhale!

Jus' sayin'.....

Long tubes all day long. why wouldn't you want LT's?? I've got hooker lt's with a modified LS1 SLP y pipe and loud mouth exhaust, I don't have any ground clearance issues. The lowest part on my car is the torque arm mount, but I'll be changing that to the straight across one vs the "long tube" version from sphon since I was able to chop cut and tuck my exhaust up close.

I planned on 1 3/4 LTs anyways but i was more just wondering on what a hugger header performs like.

I dont know about shorties but 1 5/8 mid lengths or 1 3/4 mid lengths will lose very little top end hp with a motor under 500hp. Read up on dyno tests with different headers, one test showed a 383 actually preferred 1 1/2 primary headers for the best average power over 1 3/4 long tubes.

Same with throttle bodies. A 52mm TB will handle 550+ hp without any lose over a 58mm TB.

Common mistakes, too big of cam, carb/TB too big, too big of primary pipe on headers.

The video shows the difference and at the 9:45 mark he tells you why. The manifold and mid tubes have a 2 1/2" collector and the long tubes have a 3". A short or mid tube with a true 3" collector would put them in the same territory as long tubes.
