Timing with boost on bad gas vs. bad gas w/ meth vs. decent gas with meth w/ 14 psi
Hi all. I have a low compression 383 lt4 running about 14 psi out of a vortech ysi. I'm out in CA and we have crap 91 octane gas. I'm working on tuning it without the water/meth injection hooked up. I'm just curious how much timing you guys would run in this situation versus how much timing you'd run with the water alcohol injection hooked up(once again to compare against how I've always done it). On the complete flip side, how much timing can guys run with decent gas (higher octane or pump with additive)?
I'm just really curious to see how my current "tune" compares to what you guys typically run. I'm datalogging with datamaster and I have an ostich and tunerpro. I am getting some guidance and doing it little by little since I admittedly don't know all of the settings and I'm not second guessing him at all. Just curious about octane and boost.

I've tried to start a few blower/tuning/timing threads over the years but it is all so secret spy stuff no one wants to share. I will share.
My last motor at 12psi non intercooled (important) with 94 and lots of meth 4000rpm-24 deg, 4500-23.5deg, 5000-22 deg, 5500-21 deg. 6000-21deg. 6500-21deg, 7000-21 deg. As non intercooled my IATs were high and during the hot Canadian hot summer months I did not see the added (2-3deg) of mystery timing. In the cool fall months I would see the added mystery timing but IATs were also way down. I shifted at 6000 or so.
Newer motor. Intercooled. Also 94 and meth 14ish psi. 4000rpm-22.5 deg, 4500-22deg, 5000-22 deg, 5500-21 deg. 6000-21deg. 6500-20deg, 7000-19deg. I do see the added 2-3 degrees of mystery timing now that my IATs are lower due to the intercooler.
What are you timing tables??

Thanks for the detailed response. I’m also non intercooled and running a 50/50 ish mix of water and meth (snows boost juice).
ill try to take a look at my files to see where my timing is at with similar rpm. I keep forgetting to fire up the laptop when I’m home!
