Default Afr 245 on lt1

People say you cant run the afr 245 on lt1

why just notch the combustion chamber that would stop vavle shrouding and add added hp

if you still cant run it.. then why

They seem like a better fit then my afr 227

The question that needs to be answer is; 'Does AFR make the 245cc heads for the Gen-II (LT1/4) engine?'

If so, the next question is; 'Are these heads are correct for your application?'

I recommend calling AFR and asking them.

Default Yea

They dont make it because the intake is too large for the 95 lt1 .

but my question would be would I gain more hp if I did this by notching the chamber and converting to reverse flow

and yes im.running minimum 25 pounds of boost

What are your goals? Engine specs? Aren't the 245s a raised exhaust port 60/40 head which is why they are not listed for LT1s?

Their minimum bore size is listed as 4" so I'm sure you can get them to work, but you would be needing custom or flycut pistons and I'm pretty sure a heavily ported intake. LT1 motors have very thin cylinder walls, which limits our bore so we can't run the "good" big heads for racing that require a 4.1+ bore, but these seem to only need a 4" minimum. LT1s are not SBCs with a ton of room around the valves for off-round chambers and funky oval head gaskets, so that is likely not an option. On my AFR 220s which were ported to 227ccs the intake valve seats are basically poking out of the chamber already, and since they are also 60/40 they need shaftmount rockers and piston flycutting as well. The valves didn't even come close to matching up to the reliefs in my -5cc SRP flat tops.

Sooooo to recap, I'm sure you can get them to work but the valve shrouding may be the least of your worries. I would call AFR to verify but I would imagine you need:
- Shaftmount rocker arm setup with offset intake for 60/40 heads
- Custom exhaust headers for the .250" raised exhaust port (might be able to port the flange for them to "work", but it would leave power on the table)
- Flycut or custom pistons for the big valves in the non-traditional location

Which returns back the the original questions...what are your goals and current engine specs?

The difference with the 245 NPP is they require an offset intake lifter and rocker arm as the pushrods are moved away from the intake ports. And if I were running these heads I would run a single plane intake like a victor E EFI or Supervictor.

The AFR 245's that I know of are for the Gen-1 SBC......not the Gen-2.

To use these heads on an LT1/4 block, they would need to be converted to reverse flow.
