Default LT1 with a 700R4

Hello everyone!

I am new new to the LT1, I just purchased this LT1 with LT4 heads and a hot cam, I am in the process of installing this in my 76 C10. Has an aftermarket painless wiring harness, the kicker to this is the harness has a 4l60E setup. Will I be able to use my 700R that I have?

It should work.
My 93 Camaro had a 4L60 (NO-E) transmission. It used a kickdown cable, a bracket, and used a different throttle body from all the other 94-97 f-bodies, because they came with the 4L60-E transmissions.
4L60 are basically 700r4 from what I've learned.

I think if you get a 93 f-body throttle body, bracket, and kick down cable it will work and obviously you can't connect the wiring to the transmission.

If you need a throttle body I have a 93 58mm Speed and Marine throttle body that was rebuilt and repolished when I was going to reuse it on my car. I have the bracket that was powdercoated black too. They are for sale. The kickdown cable you can get on eBay.

It will bolt right up, yes. However, if you're using the PCM that went with the engine you'll need to unset the flags in the tune that tell the PCM to read and use the Automatic trans functions. Essentially make it think it's running a manual trans coupled engine, minus the reverse lockout and CAGS. All that and tuck away or remove the unused connectors from the engine/ trans harness.

Your 700R4, depending on year may have a 2 pin VSS connector in the tailshaft and a single connector for the torque converter lockup (square connector with 4 holes, just 2 pins in it, IIRC). You'll need to find a way to control that circuit to lock/ unlock the TC. I think that can be done with an unused function in the tune/ corresponding pins from the PCM to command lockup and disengage lockup on throttle change (TPS Delta of say 6-7%). One easy (but less attractive way) to do it is to use an ECM from a 93. 93 LT1 cars came with a 700R4, they just called it a 4L60 (no "E"). 93 trans had the TC lockup control and VSS along with the engine/ trans wiring harness in it. Downside is burning chips instead of flashing the PCM to change the tune.

Hey guys sorry it is a 4L60e. I want to try to start it soon, it’s been put up for a few years, trying to wire the motor and MSD box. So I will have to send the computer off to someone to get done? This computer has been tuned from the previous owner. It’s been a few years he can’t remember what transmission he was running. This shouldn’t effect me on starting it correct?

You should be able to start the truck and run the motor....but as you already suspect, ya probably shouldn't try driving it.

How far off from starting the motor are you? Sending the PCM off for a tune should take more than a couple of weeks turnaround time. Might be worth sending the PCM off now; that way, you can start the truck AND drive it if the motor is sounding good.

Look up "moehorsepower" on this forum and send him a PM. He'd be able to tune the PCM for ya.

Best of luck!!

thanks kw for the response. The computer is already tuned, just don’t know if it was for a 4l60e which the harness is set up for of if the previous owner was running a 700r4.
