Default Which MAF with 24x?

The new motor I'm building is going to max out the stock MAF. Since I'm going EFI Connection 24x, I'm considering either a truck 85mm, an LS3 card type, or the redesigned stock replacement. The card type would be an easier install if I get a 3.5in pipe to mount it in but I'm curious what others have to say about this.

I'd go with the card type, personally.

It's much more versatile and affords you the ability to go with larger piping down the line without needing to replace the entire sensor.

It requires different mapping than the 3 and 5-wire MAFs, but that really isn't a big deal. It's just a different table that needs to be loaded.

If you know how to tune you wont need another MAF, Ive been running a stock MAF since 97, forced induction up to 15lbs

Not saying you are wrong in anyway, but, GM moved ahead with their MAF style/sizing for a reason and might as well take advantage of the new stuff with the "new" 0411 PCM.

Agree 100%, technology continues to move on for a reason, Just like I have been using a stock pcm for boost since 97 when it was said it could not be done, but I can see going 24x or FAST or Holley for an upgrade.

I was originally planning on just sticking with my msd opti for this build but I got a great deal on this 24x kit. I just couldn't pass it up. Just trying to make the most out of it now

What year/s is the card type MAF in? I need a part number, and want to do the same thing. Buying a mount and welding it in the tube is the route I'm looking at going.

Edit. I guess I hadn't had enough coffee yet!! I answered my own question, so here is the answer if anyone else is looking in the future:

RockAuto says ACDELCO Part # 2134222 (GM part #15865791) is the MAF is the same for all these vehicles:

I’m going to use a LS3/LS7 card style maf in a 3.5” tube. I was maxing out a 85mm maf using the factory pcm. My TorqueHead conversion will be here Wednesday

Sorry, I am resurrecting this year dead thread. I have searched, and this seems to be specifically what I am looking for. I am rebuilding my LT1 Impala with a Torqhead 24X and a new RMCR stage 2 (V2hd Ti-trim) centrifugal:
I am totally ignorant to tuning and the 24X, and I have no idea what the tuner will need once I get that far (I am probably 3 months away from finishing my build). Does it make sense for me to get the GM part number 15865791 MAF sensor installed for the tuner, or are there other choices that work better?
Thank you for anything you can teach me.
Mike

I don't believe you use a mass air sensor at all on a speed density setup.

Thank you. That is correct, upon (learning, then) weighing the options, I skipped the MAF and am going speed density.

That setup looks good! Is that 3.5 or 4” with the card setup?

I have a 24x setup on a 385 LT1 and i’m in the beginning stages of speed density tune. Debating on running a MAF.

Run the MAF....Will give you a better tune than speed density only.

I have a 4" MAF housing and a LS3/LS7 cartidge MAF on my L31 based 383 Express van. Full 4" air intake from the bonnet on the throttle body to the OEM air box. Spectre housing with a 4" 6:1 screen I picked up to smooth the flow. 1200cfm 4bbl throttle body on a marine dual plane MPI intake.

Eh, to each their own. From personal experience with both, I prefer speed density. The key is a quality tune done by someone capable of doing it right. I’ve realized benefits with no drawbacks. Not for everyone i.e. not appropriate for the guy/girl who may drive a vehicle in extreme elevation changes but most of us aren’t.
