Doing a head gasket replacement and starting to put things back together. Does anyone know what this bracket is for on the rear of the driver's side head and if it can be removed? Doesn't seem to be doing anything and can't find any information on it.

I believe that is a mount for a clasp which fastens part of the harness that goes to the transmission. I removed mine over 20 years ago.

Confirmed. Its one part of the two-part harness retainer.

Pretty sure I have mine in a parts bin and every time I've ran across it I've wondered WTF it was for!
