Default LT1 Optispark which brand?

Hello all. New to the site. I have a 1996 Z28 with the original Opti spark Dist. What is a good quality replacement? A sales rep from summit suggested a CARDONE distributor was pretty good for the price.
My car is completely stock with a 6 speed manual trans. Thanks All
Ken

Ken

If the Opti is working, keep it. Like any distributor the cap & rotor are wear items. If yours has 100k mi get a MSD cap & rotor (their whole opti is crap)

The Summit Cardone is a POS as are other "store brand" clones

If you need a new Opti, Petris is the only one getting favorable reviews although I have no direct experience with it

Thanks For the reply. The orig on the car (has 92,000 miles) seems ok, but one of the distributor cap scres is broke off in it. Purchased 4 used screws off e bay. But cant get it out. So the dist will have to be drilled / taped. Also, the two O-rings on the back shaft that slip into the cam shaft are cracked. Need new ones. No one has them.
That's why I was just going to get a new / rebuilt one.

absolutely fix your original AC Delco opti...period. Any aftermarket one is a crap shoot with the Petris unit having the best reviews of any

I know a guy who had his rebuilt by the ebay guy...it works fine

The Opti i just pulled out was an aftermarket POS one. Gen II Opti's have been hard to find lately. Petris is out, The guy on ebay is out of remanned units he sells outright, AIP is out of them, and I tried ordering an AC Delco reman off rockauto. After I ordered it they came back and said it wasn't currently available. If you still have the factory one, I would send it to the ebay guy and have it remanned by him.

I just bought a front cover gasket kit made by Mahle and it came with 2 orings that I had no clue where they went. Mine is a 94 model, spline shaft so different from yours. I’ll mail them to you if u want and you can see if they are what you need

I bought my old 96TA back from this kid who fucked it up. Main purpose was to get the NOS Opti Unit I found and slapped in there. Bought it off a Corvette guy he had for his LT4. So, Im definitely getting that back.

Was going to say try and find an AC Delco one to get remanned, and have yours remanned as well as back up. Current WS6 i got my hands on, previous owner put in some aftermarket crap. Already getting codes for it. Fun stuff.
