Lt1 into 83 jag xj6 progress to date
I will be (when weather cools down) transplanting a 94 lt1 into my jag, No progress on swap itself yet, but I bought and rebuilt the entire drivetrain from a 94 Pontiac formula, everything from AC condenser back to the driveshaft.
I know I will be using just about everything except the driveshaft, May even get to use it if I am really lucky (which I never am).
I got to drive car before buying the drivetrain, but it was running pretty rough, so I tore motor down, what I wasn’t told was that car must have been sitting a while because I had pistons where the rings were stuck.. other than that everything looked ok. To be safe I sent block and crank to machine shop and was nice to hear that all it needed was a hone and crank needed polishing.. along with standard bearings and freeze plugs etc, so I got it all back and started the reassembly, I used the original rods and pistons (after machine shop got the rings off of the two) I went with the lt4 hotcam installed 2 degrees advanced (I know it’s old school tech, but drove a friends caprice years ago that had one and loved everything about it), and 1.6 roller rockers, other than that it’s pretty stock. I will be running rams horn manifold as it’s about the only thing that works and will clear the steering shaft, so not ideal, but I opened them up best I could to be close to the d port shape.
I have already sent pcm off to Moe Bailey and he made all necessary changes for me, also while I had the opti off (even though it ran) I sent it off to the opti guy on eBay and had it rebuilt.
i have downloaded everything I can find to help me with this swap from shoebox and lt1 swap etc, I already have scan9495 as well, I should be in pretty good shape, but be ready for my questions.... I will of course be detailing this swap on here with lots of photos as I proceed .
stay tuned!
P.s. working entirely in driveway would be optimal however HOA says it's a no-no..
will try to upload some phots separately as last time it went to moderation and never showed up...
All is fine for 4 days, then i am leaking power steering fluid, rack is old and all seals have given up the ghost!! Took a while to find a new/rebuilt one, that had correct inner tie rods.. showed up with wrong ones of course, nowhere to be found is the outer tie rod ends to match so i ended up swapping them from old rack to new ( inners).
I figured while it was out and ledt side exhaust down pope out as well i should probably have new lines made. Only way to have that done was to add fittings to rack, which in turn increased height of where line goes, althiugh i finally got it to go one, i wish i had told hydraulic shop to cut iff and braze my old fittings onto the new lines.
Anyway, shes all done finally, i have only gotten a few hundred miles on her, so shes not broken in yet,
but she runs like a dream! So glad i did this swap!!!
