High amp alternator Has anyone run a 170 or 200amp alternator in their F body without making any wiring changes? Is it nessesary to make any wiring changes with a high amp alternator in our cars?

The devices on your vehicle only consume their same number of amps if you put in a higher capacity alternator. The two biggest reasons to ever upgrade an alternator would be a new high wattage car stereo or maybe a change to electric radiator fans. At that point, you would need suitably fat gauge wire for those items and probably a fatter 12 volt positive wire out of the alternator towards the fuse block.

I have a 200 amp unit in my car with factory ignition (sense/POR) line but with a 0 gauge wire to battery now. If you want to have full use of the 200amp source you will need to upgrade factory wiring IMO
