Default HAVAC controller not working!111

Within the time the Camaro has been sitting for winter somehow the controller for the vents stopped working. From what I read the popular failure for this is the check valve under the hood in front of the PCM:

Tested mine and it works fine. Took the controller out and noticed there was a vacuum leak/audible hiss. Found a video about a 3rd gen doing this:
Except the tabs on mine were not broken. Put on a bolt and a small nut w/ some loc-tite, put a smear of grease on the plastic face that the rubber channels piece seats against and tightened it down and it now works. It's not 100%, but I think what's happening is the rubber piece of the vacuum channels is worn out and leaking since I can still hear a hiss. Vents work, but are a bit lethargic. I have no idea if these things can still be bought new. Would hate to buy a used one only to face the same dilemma.
In the searching I did I couldn't find anything about this being an issue on 4th gens.
And since the bezel is off, wondering whether or not to go the LED route for accessory and gauge cluster.

Can you dim your dash with them? What bulbs did you use?

From what I read in that linked thread it is possible to dim them, but they won't dim very much. Probs just going to replace with normal bulbs in everything since they are all still original. First time the bezel has been taken off, and the dash pad is still in tact!
