I've heard the stock PCM can only handle about 15 PSI. Any truth to this?

The PCM uses a 1bar MAP sensor. After 3400rpm@10psi I don't see anything but 104 kPA. I just change timing based on RPM past that point to keep knock in check @WOT.

Does any one have prices for the parts that would be needed for a 383 that can handle 25lbs of boost!!!

The car he speaks of is Dave L.'s 95 Firehawk, 383 LT1, Vortech T-trim, and a 200 shot. I saw a dynosheet of it a while back when it put down 918rwhp. Since then Ive heard its made around 980rwhp. It was originally a highway car setup to battle Supras and Vipers. It still had a t-56, full interior(and a cage/gauges/ etc.), and even A/C. Since then they changed the setup towards dragracing, but I dont think theyve ran it at the track yet.

Wow, those are very impressive numbers. Especially since without the 200 shot he's still at like 718rwhp, or possibly 780rwhp. Those are VERY impressive numbers for this blower. Heck, I am hoping for that much at the crank in my car with the same blower. Any idea on engine specs, specifically heads/cam? I'm also curious what bottom end he has. Maybe nitrous is in my future as well... lol.

Would he be needing to grout the block or will it be strong enough, I didn't know a convetional block could take that kinda bounding?

Its an MTI built car, its sitting outside their shop alot of the time. He blew a headgasket a while back and I think they may have changed the setup. They won't tell you a whole lot about it other than basics, and the power it makes. I figure its a 4 bolt main block, and they used block fill. But Im pretty certain its the same block theyve used years on end.

Madman was making similar power(1200fwhp) for a while in his all out drag 383 LT1 94 TA, and ended up having issues with the bore shifting.

Also heres a twinturbo 383 LT1 that made 937rwhp before the injectors were maxed out.

meangreen94z I dont remember having any core shift issues. The block is killer and will live. We had some crank failures due to the cog belt on the s/c. The LT1 and LT4 heads suck due to being to thin on the deck surface.

Sorry, I guess I was misinformed. What other problems did you run into? Why did you give up on trying to get an LT1 into the 8's?

You will need an aftermarket block to hold 900rwp. That is well over 1000hp at the crank. That is serious. Go with a tall deck block and you can use really long rods. I use 6.125 long rods with a 9.3 deck, 4" stroke, and a 1.175 compression height!! Just a thought. If your gonna do it, do it right.

I honestly don't believe you have to worry about it.Check this out. Out of the top 3 guys, only the 2nd one specifically states he has a 383 LT1... with 18 psi of turbo blowin'. The 3rd has a 409 and the 1st has a 391.

The 94-96 Impala SS and Caprice 9C1's all had iron blocks and heads. Everyone on the Impala SS forum seems to have either LT1 or LT4 blocks except for one guy who runs a 502 crate.

Anyways, these guys in the 10's (and one in the 9's) are pushing 4200+ lbs of Texas steel down the track. That's roughly 1000 fwhp. There is also another SS out there with a new TT setup, but has yet to be tuned and run down the track due to bugs, glitches and everything else involved in a new extreme project. Whenever it does get fixed up it'll easily be deep into the 9's. Have fun with your project and I wish I could devote time and money (which I don't have) to the same kind of project to my SS.

Noone makes an aftermarket block. That is one of the main things holding further development of faster lt1s in these cars.

No one that I know of has an aftermarket lt1 block.
Chris is currently in the 8s @ ~160mph.

~1000 fwhp 4 bolt lt1

I dont think anyone has broken a block yet (chris said several times that he is trying) I just think the lack of aftermarket developement is making it a slow process.

How sweet would it be to have a tall deck, large bore, large clearance for crank, 4 bolt splayed main caps block in either iron or aluminum...that would be raw....
