Default cam install question

First, I got the cam package today.

The guy at you know where, tells me "you know you will have to drop your oil pan, completly, or you will tear your gasket up." Now I know you guys arn't all droping your oil pans for the cam install. I have read a few install guides and they all say loosen the front up (oil pan) and carefully pull the timing cover.

You guys have any input, website that shows step-by-step install, or want to come supervise?

Thanks,
Jayme

I managed to get the timing cover off without even dropping the front of the pan. How patient are you? I spend a good 20 mins both taking off and putting on the timing cover. No matter how you do it it's a PITA! Just don't get aggrevated and try to do it quick, it will come off with some time.

I second that. You can do it with out taking the oil pan off. You may need to just lossen the first set of bolts to give you a little wiggeling room.

Yeah, that is what have read. I am pretty patient so I will spen as much time as it takes not to tear up the gasket.

Also, can I rent the spring compressor from Hi/Lo or Autozone? I personally don't have one and don't intend to buy it. Otherwise anyone got one I can use?

Also what assembly lube do you guys use? ...and where to get it?

I am trying to get everything I need before I start.

Thanks,
Jayme

Just loosen the first few bolts and rotate the timing cover slowly...thats how i got it off. As far as the spring compressor...you can get one on loan from autozone...you will have to put the money down for it and then they will give it to you. When you return it you get your money back. While your at autozone pick up the engine assembly lube...mine was in a lil red and white bottle and when they rang it up it came up as *** LUBE....just to make sure you get the right stuff...lol
