Default 450-500 rwhp

Okay guys, I’m an old school sbc guy but I have a 94 b4c a4 that’s bone stock right now and I’m thinking about doing a “mild” street build. What do you guys think would be the most street able build to achieve 450 plus rwhp? I know that many of you have done this already and that’s why I’m asking for your advice. I don’t need it to pass emissions, but I would like to be able to drive it anywhere and retain a/c.
There’s no need to explain to me that I’ll need supporting mods, I’m well aware. Thanks

Thanks.
I forgot to mention, I’d like to have power brakes too.

do a solid 383 bottom end build and contact Lloyd Elliott for a H/C package. 450 rwhp is about as much as you will get and still have a "reasonably" streetable motor/ Larger injectors, 255gph fuel pump, headers and a GOOD tune

Also if you have the stock 10 bolt rear 450rwhp+ will make it a ticking time bomb. Invest in a built 8.8 ford or 12 bolt. I have a my lt1 with a 8.8 rear 411 gears and 31 spline axles and another lt1 with a 33 spline 12 bolt and 373 gears. Like mentioned above Lloyd is a Lt1 heads/cam/intake expert and one of the best head/intake porters out there. The afr 227 heads will make 450rw straight out of the box. Another guy who builds lt1s who recently hit 630fwhp on the dyno with the 227 afr heads and a 385 stroker is Karl Ellwein, good guy to build your motor if you don't want to do it yourself.

"Mild street build" and "450 plus rwhp" are mutually exclusive sets.

AFR 210 Competition heads will get you there. Otherwise....all else applies.

12:1 compression and a good size cam pushing 20* of overlap.

For brakes.....I would strongly suggest a Hydraboost system.

Been there....doing that.

All true!

BTW.....that engine is 12.5:1 compression and the cam is 26* overlap. Nuthin' nice about that beast!

I ran a ~12:1 396 with LE2 heads, 242/252 .610/.620 110lsa hydraulic in a 34xx# street car...made enough power to run 10.8@122....and was easily a street car. Over the years I have had a multitude of stroker and SBE combos, everything from mild to wild.

The motor I'm running right now made 502rwhp through a t56 on a mustang dyno. 396, ported afr 195s, .575 lift cam, 11.4 compression. on a mail order tune. If you're running a t56, you could probably get pretty close to 450 with an LE heads and cam package with a good tune.

How much vacuum are you pulling at idle? I'm at 12" with my XFI292 on a 112lsa. I have C5 brakes and they work great at low rpm.

I don't think I've ever put a gauge on it

very impressive / stout numbers( on a mustang dyno to boot). Would love to know your setup , sounds like a perfect recipe to copy. Care to share details of your build? Any Dyno sheet ? Is this on E85?

I don't have the sheet anymore. It was about 10 years ago. It was on 93. The heads and intake were ported by a local guy. I'll actually be parting the motor after tax season. It's pretty tired and I'm going for more power. Gonna be using LE TFS 215s and custom cam.

I have a twin turbo sbc in a 69 Nova, but I'm new to n/a LT1 builds. The Nova isn't much of a street car anymore and I don't want to go down that path with the Camaro (lol). I'ts a father/son build, that's going to be his first "toy" car. He's only 13, so we have 3 years before he gets to drive it (probably 5 years till he gets to by himself).

If it were me I would not hand over the keys of a 450rwhp car to a 16 year old. Stick with bolt-ons for now while he gets some seat time. In a year I would look at the bottom end to see if it's still sound and then do heads and a small cam like the CC503 which should give the car roughly 350-380'ish (?) HP. In a year or two then go crazy w/ a 500rwhp build.

That seems right. I figure mine makes around 600-630 at the crank and it’s 12.77:1 on E85 with a 31 degree overlap cam motion LLSR. Tony Mamo massaged comp ported 210 AFR’s and a port matched mono blade Eddy LT4 intake.

I've had to motor for over 10 years. I can't remember every single thing I've ever touched on it. Although I appreciate you interjecting your opinion
