Long Time Coming: 302 LT1

Long Time Coming: 302 LT1
This is a motor I've been wanting to build for quite some time. A lot of people talk about it, but very few follow through. Most people on the internet dissuade the notion of the "destroker" because you get more horsepower for your dollars going up in cubic inches. Well, I've been there and done that, and that isn't the point of this motor. The point is to simply do something different.
On to the details:
The block is bored .030" over
3.000" stroke crank from an L99
6.125" Scat I-beam rods
1.400" height pistons with a 7.4cc dome
.045" quench
11.3:1 Compression
237/245, .565/.565, 112+4 Howards cam
Isky Silver HPX lifters
Isky 8005SP springs with titanium retainers
Dart 180cc Pro1 Heads, 58cc chambers
Intake ported by Lloyd Elliot
TPIS monoblade
The motor will be going in a 944 and run off a Holley Terminator X.

As of right now, it is 7500. We'll see what the power curve looks like at that point and adjust accordingly. The lifters are rated to 7500 by Isky, so I may also run into hydraulic issues beyond that RPM. We'll see what happens.

I think people are quick to discount the abilities of hydraulic rollers, and I wanted to see what I could do with a set of nice short travel lifters. If I need to switch to a solid roller lifter, I can do that without changing the camshaft, but if my needs are met with the hydraulics, then I don't have to worry about checking lash adjustments in an engine bay that is going to be rather tight on the driver's side due to the hydroboost.

I do like those oldsmobile rocket type valve covers... I like that your doing the swap into a different car instead of just going LS. People look at me crazy when I tell them I'm tossing a Gen 2 engine into my old camaro.

Yeah, the challenge with the 944, though, is that everyone has moved solely to just LS swaps, so some things have proven to be a challenge since information is outdated due to SBCs and LT1s having fallen to the wayside. I've gotten a lot of "Why didn't you just go LS?" comments. They get befuddled when I tell them that I simply didn't want to.

Thanks. It looks even better in person. I'm hoping to get the motor in the car shortly.

I'm hoping to get it in the car next weekend. Shipping delays plus dealing with getting the in-laws into a smaller house have been killer. Settlement on their new house is today, actually.
However, I did get the coil packs mounted and plug wires made up.
I also had to pick up some offset dowels to align the bellhousing.

I like the coil pack mounting and the valve covers as well... makes me rethink how I'm setting my LT1 build up in my old camaro. I wonder, will that mounting and wire setup allow someone to still utilize the black corvette valve cover vanity pieces with "corvette" script on them?
