lt1 idle too high
And i start thinking about weird signs when i bought this thing. Its a cool truck...but. the wires in the engine compartment were not in a kind of wiring protection, as if someone was probing around with a multi meter,,,some kind of electrical problem? maybe, And so the owner told me "I've got some new brake rotors to go with this, my wife doesnt like to drive it because you have to put it in neutral when you stop because the brakes arent strong enough" okay...weird comment..
so i buy it...and very quickly i discover here the BRAKES were not the problem!!! he had to pop it in neutral at every light because it was IDLING so damn high!!!
So i started checking with my friends. The high idle was making the engine overheat as well,
My friend Kevin, who manages an advance auto parts store started messing with it....and so when he popped off the idle air control valve connection or maybe the other sensor,,,it was one of the two at the throttle body.....the idle dropped back down...and it was fine driving it like that,
So everything is working well. Except the steering on this truck had multiple heim joints....and it hunted and tracked all over the road. So i said...the hell with this. and i ran a straight steering shaft to the steering column....which meant that stock exhaust and EGR had to go....and i would be welding up some custom headers because of the tight fit,,
so i start it up after all that.... it starts up.....and that high idle is back,,,,and pulling either of those sensor plugs has no effect
i dropped it off at a friends shop yesterday....they looked at for a bit... but have it now to try and fix..... they made comments about
1) the lack of a cooling line running through the throttle body...rerouted so it did not go through the throttle body
2) possible vaccum leaks (which i found none)......
3) i put in new 02 sensors when i did the headers...they said that would not cause a high idle
thoughts or ideas?
