Default ripping my hair out over TPS sensor

If anyone could help me out with my current problem on my 95 LT1 Camaro I would really appreciate it. My current problem is my TPS sensor went out so I replaced it, on the old one there's a hole drilled through it so when I hook it up and line the holes up its at .5 volts which is what I read somewhere else is supposed to be the idle value. I'm getting the 5 V from the grey wire but when I hook the new one up my computer reads the TPS % at 5.1% and .1 V and does not change with my throttle change. I asked a friend who has an lt1 and he said that it's a wiring problem but I'm getting 5 V from the power and I checked the resistance from where it plugs in at the ECU and got no resistance. Should I try and adjust my new sensor like the old one? I've been told they adjust themselves with the AIC but if that's the case I still don't understand why I'm getting such low voltage from the sensor.

If the tps value does not change when you move the throttle blades you didn't install it quite right, or the sensor is bad. I have had Several cheap O-Reilly, and lots of AutoZone TPS either not work, fail very shortly after install, and almost all gave me some sort or drivability issue. Make sure you get a good quality sensor.

I don't remember on the camaro but on some of my other vehicles you needed to rotate the tps so the screw holes DONT line up, slide it on the throttle blade and then rotate it to line up the screws. This would "preload" the sensor so it would follow the throttle blade because its spring loaded. I'm not aware of any adjustability on the TPS.

If you can test it while removed from the throttle body to make sure you get a change in value while rotating the TPS manually.

If you put it in place and then tightened the screws to seat the sensor it could be damaged if it wasn't aligned properly.

Okay I'll take a look at some other kinds. I tried putting this one on and it didn't go on all the way so I opened the throttle body and it slid into the sensor and moves freely in and out of the sensor now so I'm curious if my monkey thought process broke the sensor and if the guy before me did the same and fixed it with the drill hole

Sound like it slid into position without issue so I doubt you damaged it at all.

The only thing I can think of is if you opened the TB all the way and then slid it on and the TPS rotated backwards maybe?

I would test it disconnected and see what happens.

Its very likely that happened. I got sick of feeling like I was wasting time and it was giving me a signal from the wire and raising my tps on my laptop so I finally just did the drill hole technique and got it on correctly

I don't remember which two wires you need to probe on the TPS connector with the TB connected, but do so with key on and ensure you are getting right around .7v closed and 5v open. While slowly opening/closing the throttle blades the readings should increase and decrease smoothly. Haynes manual has a procedure for this.

Also, avoid sensors from autozone and oreilly. They are hit and miss with that type of stuff. I bought a tps for my ws6 and it would read either 0% or 100%.. no in between. Ended up going with an AC Delco sensor and solved my issues.

just my 2 cents
