LT1 Rebuild Questions
New to the forum, so sorry in advance if this is in the incorrect spot. I just bought a 97 SS M6 convertible car, and lucky me, it spun a rod on the test drive. The car is very clean otherwise, and I used to ride around in this exact car when I was a little kid, so I went ahead and bought it anyways. My dad is a mechanic, and he thinks I should take it to the machine shop and have them machine the crank, add new bearings, a new oil pump, and re-ring it and throw it back together (provided everything else looks good.) I was thinking about maybe going to a 383 build and camming it, but he seems to think that's a bad idea and that it will have plenty of power stock. I haven't ever pulled the motor on one of these cars, and I have hardly any experience aside from my childhood driving or riding in these cars (when anything and everything felt like a rocket ship,) but I would hate to put it back together and be wishing for more power the minute I get it on the road. What are your guys' thoughts? Cheap route or spend some dinero and put the go fast stuff on it?
Thanks in advance
Now, you could rebuild with forged pistons to give you some leeway for a nitrous shot later on.
