Default shaking problem at high speeds?

Was chasing a lambo yesterday. It was a gallardo. So i saw him pass by quick and i thought about and decided to chase it. He notice i was chasing him so he punched it. Then i follow along and kept up pretty well till i was hitting 120 and my car felt wierd like alot of vibration at those speed? What could it be?

I stopped because i was shitting bricks once i felt the vibrations at that speed?

Help.What could it be?

When is the last time you had your wheels balanced?

^^^Bump what he said. I'd go spend a few bucks and have you're tires balanced first. If that's not it then things start costing a little money. If it's only higher speeds though I'd say you got a tire outta wack.

Im gonna guess that at 120 you shifted to 5th and then felt the problem, and you have the dreaded 5th 6th gear loose problem. Someone did a thread on here not too long about it, but basically the gears can slide off their shafts without even a puller once the trans is apart.

Heres the thread

Yeah thats my thread and this only applies if you have a T56.
Simply determine if the vibe is present in 4th gear. If there is no vibe and once you shift to 5th or 6th and if the vibe occurs, its the T56 transmission. Click the above link for the fix.

Did you feel it in the seat? I am getting the same thing and it's driving me nuts.. I hit about 90mph and it starts and gets back about 100-120 and higher.

I did hear about the guy that replaced his wheel bearings, driveshaft, axle, etc, and then it turned out to be a bent wheel a few grand later..

thanks for the help everyone.

yeah i feel it in my seat even the passenger seat shakes.I thought my car was gonna fall apart at 120 lol.

could it be the new wheels and tire setup i put?

they are z06s c6 18s all around 10.5s wide on back and on front 9.5s.

when i had stock wheels it felt much better. what you guys think.

oh by the way its an auto so i dont think that falls in my category thanks for the help by the way.

Seems i wont be going higher than 90 since that scared the **** out of me.

not too while ago i was putting a new water pump, and when i put the whole set up together, me and my friend saw the balancer kind of wobbling when i was testing the wp. Could it be my balancer that is driving the belt to have an effect on shaking at high speeds. or maybe the new rims?

If you feel a shimmy in the steering wheel then about 99.9 and 9/10th and 15/16th's and ".75 thousanths" of a time it's a problem with the front suspension. Since you say it felt better before putting the new wheels and tires on you could probably pin point it to the new wheels and tires. They need to be checked for balance and to see if they are true (not bent). While you're at it, check the back ones too.

i think you need to go get an alighnment and wheel balanced first. Make sure they are not putting over 3 oz on each wheel, i see this happen way to much from these shitty tire places. the guys are not qualified to do tires or anything for that matter putting to much weight on the zero out the wheel,it will drive fine at normal speeds and shake like hell at higher speeds. if your steering wheel is shaking at 55 then yout front tires have something going on and need to be checked out

I had that problem when i first got mine, but it would shake at 85 and beyond it would get worse. looked everywhere for answers, only for sure thing people really said was the driveshaft. but i got my wheels balanced and it stopped, and then it starts again at 110+. I wonder what happens if you just keep going lol but i just **** my pants when it happens 'cause it feels REALLY ugly.

i got an alignment and wheel balancing. I think it's either some bearing or the axle. will try one at a time.

Just ask to get your alignment checked. No need to tell them off the bat you'll need an alignment. Most legit places check it for free. A shimmy would not come from a bad alignment anyway.
