Default 383/ 388 stroker with zero deck

Can anyone with a 383/ 388 stroker with zero deck give me some insight into what set up they are running? I am in the process of rebuilding mine and am having a hard time finding a piston/ cam combination that will have correct valve clearance. im hoping someone on here has a similar setup on the bottom end and will have some info that may help me figure out how to get around my clearance issue.

I simply looked at what Ellwein and Golen use for their 383s and copied it.
LE did my heads and provided the cam.
What issues are u having?

The issue i am having is that any cam bigger then a hot cam is going to have clearance issues because I have a zero deck and the heads milled. I will probably get new heads for it but want to make sure I will have valve clearance for the cam LE is going to make me. I need a break down of parts from the pistons up for a zero deck 383 build that will have safe clearance.

How much are your heads milled?
FYI: I have a set of stockers off my 97 that are available. Granted shipping will suck.

What is the current piston?

I went with the mahle 930200630 which is a flat top but has 5cc worth of valve reliefs.

How much did you take off the block?
also could a thicker than stock head gasket help cheat a little? (Else you can also back off on the rocker ratio or cam lift )
LE specs me a mild cam that even with my 1.7 rockers appears to work.

i can not remember the exact amount the machine shop said was taken off but it was the second time they have been milled (was done before i got the car). My intake valve is sitting flush with the bottom of the head if not a couple thousandths past. they are lt4 heads so the combustion chamber is only like 52 cc's after milling.
All the block work was done before i got it and i didn't know about it so im not sure how much was taken off i will find out when i get the motor out and take the measurements.
I'm using a .039 head gasket so my quench is still in check and would hate to go higher.
What i need is pistons with large valve reliefs and a dish to get me about 14cc of total dish.
I am also trying to find out from LLyod if he has any heads for sale that will help my issue and i could leave my bottom end alone although I don't like the pistons that are in it and i need to get one cylinder sleeved because of a head gasket leak that caused a cylinder to discolor after is sat unless a hone takes care of it but I'm not banking on that.

I'm running the mahle 930200630 piston 6.0 eagle rod and 4340 crank, block was decked to zero+.005, my AI Trickflows I bought 2nd head and they were flat milled to low 50`s like yours. I had to step mill the intake 3 times to get it to fit the runners, ended up with a paper thin "china wall" surface. Piston to valve has some to do with surface or deck heights but more to do with cam timing. Lloyd spec`d a cam for my intentions w/ .600 lift and we had a ton of room for the valve..it was 223/231 on a 112 ... I`m sure the bigger you go the less you will have but "clay it" is the only true way to measure it, we also use a solid roller lifter to measure. I`m running a cometic .035 gasket so .040 quench. This build was shadowed from Elliewn engine as well for 500/500 at the flywheel and I`d say it has all of that with ease

As stated, cam timing is what you should be looking at. Duration affects clearance far more than lift. If you're looking for a good cam, the CC XFI 292 is a good one for a stroker, which is what I'm running.
