Default Oil Cooler Delete?

Does anyone know how to delete the oil cooler on a 96 Impala SS? I am going to do this so I can run some FLP headers without relocating the filter.
I believe that there are two bolts holding the oil cooler onto the block, remove those and then that should allow the filter adapter to be removed. I believe there are some studs or something that I will have to grind down or get new bolts for? Does anybody know what I am talking about and does anyone have photos?

I will be running the PF454 filter.

Will I need this adapter or just the new bolts? For some reason this is confusing me wayyyy more than it should be

Just remove the oil cooler plate that is between the block and the oil filter.
no gasket needed.

then route the water line from the water pump directly to te radiator.

What water line are you talking about? I will have to go back and look at the car.

@AgFormula02 This is an Impala so both lines go to the radiator, neither go to the water pump.

Got ya. Well, you should be able to create a loop that simply bypasses the radiator?
in the f body the route goes from wp to cooler then to radiator.
My 97 did not come with one but the 96 spare motor I have did come with one. The manual simply had me remove the adapter that would go between the block and the oil filter.

Right now I have AN fittings for cooler lines. I am deleting the cooler all together because the FLP headers I bought have clearance issues with the cooler. Without the cooler I will be able to easily fit the headers. From what I am reading I need a PF454 filter, a different adapter and some new bolts. I am not sure if this is correct though as some people seem to think they just took the cooler off and screwed on a filter.

Found the following:
You don't need a Filter Adapter because it's already there. You just need to cut the tops off the bolts (2) or get new ones.

found this in another forum. Unable to paste link.

Part 142 is where the oil filter will screw onto once the cooler is removed.

If your oil cooler looks like #407 in this picture, then you need to get an adapter. Any SBC oil filter adapter will work.

Yeah it looks like I will need the adapter. I have not gotten around to pulling it out yet. Summit is right down the road from me so I will grab one from there.

Anyone know if I should use a gasket or skip the gasket? Some say yes some say no, I am thinking yes.

It certainly won't hurt to use the gasket.

Thanks Thugga
Bought the gasket, looks strange and like it won't work but I bet it will. We will see when I go to install.

That last diagram is a GM diagram. But the RPO code is supposed to be KC4, not KE4. Typo on their part.
Either way, the easiest and cheapest way is hit a junkyard, find a caprice that has the L99 in it and it should have the non KC4 adapter.
$5 maybe.

Yeah I will run the SBC adapter since I have all the parts for it and my local junkyards are trash.

Quick question, does anyone have an idea on what I could use to block off the radiator ports for the old cooler lines? I don't really want to leave them wide open in case something crawls up in there.

It's a water line, so you can't leave it open anyway. Most LT1s have a bypass hose that goes from the radiator to the water pump. If you don't have that fitting on your water pump, you will have to put a rubber cap on the radiator port.

bypass hose is #16
