Default Did my opti die🤒

Over the weekend I was doing the coolant bypass mod on my 96. The coolant did leak down in that area, I place rags under and around the opti but I think I under estimated how much coolant did leak, it did start but died a few minutes later.. i tried to let it dry out a few days,it did start and was running longer then last time but when i turned it off it wouldnt start back up now my car is throwing codes that are P1371 P0372 & P0100 are all these related to my optispark getting wet?

That's an odd mixture of codes. Is your harness damaged?

Check that you plugged your MAF back in. That's the P0100.

Aside from the codes, how much coolant spilled on the opti?

when a car stumbles and misfires it can throw a variety of codes, often not related to the "why" as the PCM gets bombed with false operational errors due to a stumbling engine.

Given the issue happened right after spilling coolant on opti....it would be prudent to pull it and clean it out. If its an original AC Delco, never get rid of it as replacement optis are a complete crap shoot.

but as shobox notes...did you not plug something back in like MAF or IAT???

I replaced the opti and harness about a year ago with a orilys opti but I do have the original one with the Mitsubishi sensor. Was thinking about getting a cap and rotor and just rebuilding that one but can't seem to find a ac delco cap & rotor now in days or was thinking on putting the Mitsubishi sensor in the new opti? But everything plugged up

Well it looks like the first two codes are related to the computer not being able to see the high and low resolution parts of the opti. The way I was able to tell that the opti was dead is by using EEhack and trying to start the engine and if there was zero injector pusle width then there was my answer, opti dead. Ive had my opti go out four times, that was my test, and each time replacing it worked.

I just ordered a Torqhead kit, if you have lots of opti problems in the future, give it a look.

I have looked into it but it gets costly but going to give this opti thing 1 more chance I need to get atleast a few years out of it lol i blame this one on human error 😥 but looking into re building the ac delco if I can find a good cap and rotor or was looking at the Petris optispark I heard good things about them and been hearing 50/50 about those msd optis so not too sure about them

It's costly because it is the final solution. If my opti died tomorrow there is no way in hell I would even try to put in a new one.

Update I removed the opti harness cleaned both ends with electrical cleaner and also sprayed the opti sensor opening I didn't remove the opti. And it seems like it fixed it after i let it sit and dry, i erased the codes and never came back and that's with me just at idle though, I did this 3 times leaving the car on for about 30-45 minutes at a time with out the car cutting off on me. Just want to make sure before I do a actual drive test this weekend,I don't want to get stranded 😫

It's not the only final solution. 4x 411 swap is much cheaper, keep the opti as a distributor only. That's what I'll be doing to mine eventually.

What are the Possible Causes of the Code P1371 Chevrolet?

  • Faulty Crankshaft Sensor
  • Crankshaft Sensor harness is open or shorted
  • Crankshaft Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
  • Faulty Ignition Control Module
Did you check to ensure this was plugged in and not wrapped around the crank pulley? I've seen that happen a few times.

Yes everything is plugged in, I think the coolant killed the opti
