Default 1994 lt1 4l60e

Does anyone know if a 4l60e from a 1996 impala will work in a 1994 firebird

Multiple problems with that, unfortunately. 94 PCM has no way to control the PWM torque converter clutch apply solenoid added in 95 and then changed in 96 and up. You could run a 95 4L60E with the addition of a wire from trans pin U to PCM pin D6 and flash the PCM with 95 code that includes the PWM solenoid controls. 96 up is a no go. I want to say with the removable bellhousing there also is an issue with the input shaft length being different. And the tailshaft housing wouldn't have the torque arm provisions.

Probably- 5-pinion planetary, shift kit, beast sunshell, kevlar bands and clutches, possibly heavier 2nd apply servo are good upgrades and will hold 500+ lb ft TQ and 550HP. all that done at a reputable shop that REALLY knows what they're doing will cost you around 22-2500 but it'll be the last you'll ever need for that car. A standard rebuild to hold stock power with minor upgrades would run you 13-1400. The factory converter flashes at about 1800RPM. Transmission upgrades that would alter the shifting timing and characteristics would need some alterations to the tune for trans tables, constants and scalars. So decide what you're doing with the car and go rom there. Tuning is free with TunerPro RT, some other free software tools from SteveO at https://ecmhack.com. Figure out what you want to do and then spend your money and time accordingly.
