Default LT1 Limits?

Hey Guys.... I'm trying to finish building my Supercharged 383 w/ NOS 93 TA, and I was just wondering how much HP a stock LT1 block can take? AND! Are you better off using the factory 2 bolt main caps with a girdle, or is it better to have it splayed to a 4 bolt? I've heard some people argue about which is really better with no real outcome... thanks guys

You might want to read the topic "what block for XXX horsepower" right below this one. The block will take it. Everyone generally agrees that the splayed 4 bolts are better, when it comes to numbers most people including myself stop talking. I just have no experiance to quantify "how much" better.

Thats you going to be your limit. Theres a blown Firehawk down here, making 9 some at the wheels, its on a T-trim at 22lbs and a big ol wet shot. Has a LT1 block still in it. RickC5 has a 96 Formula on a 91.5mm, that car really should test the limits of what an Lt1 can take. Couse plenty of guys ave gone 15xmph in the 1/4 with LT1 blocks.

rick ran in the bottom nines on a wild LT1 with a big shot of gas for a while before deciding to swap to a wilder setup with turbo's. He should be running solid 8's with the LT1 block when he is finished. Shouldnt be too far from now.

I left the 2 bolt mains in mine. Some old timer once said to me, "Have you ever heard of someone breaking their mains?"

what limits??? to my knowledge a 4 bolt straight or splayed lt1 block has yet to have a block failure..... only one even close was madmans lt1 and that block broke cause he hit the guardrail and impact hitting waterpump cracked it.... I been wrong before so who knows, but I think parts have failed before the block has ..exception being 2 bolt factory mains which I know have failed...

Yes I've heard of dozens of 2 bolt main failures. So far the LT1 block seems to holding OK behind around 1200 HP at the flywheel. Usually if you plan on making more than that, it is hardblock time.
