excellent head choice for a decent stroked bottom end 396/408, 383 would be a little mild for those heads unless it had a really agressive solid cam and all the boltons, upgraded fuel system, intake, etc.

Is it true that the valvetrain geometry is different with the 227's versus typical LT4 style 195's, 210's ? Just wondering because i thought i read a post where you need to run shaft mounted rockers with the 227? Can anyone shed any light on the subject?

Shaft rockers are not required and will take some mods to make them work somewhat...227's are made to work with conventional stud rocker assemblies...

So would 227s be advantageous enough over say AFR 210s to justify the cost and the time to modify them?

metal tough to say...I bought my heads as file cores and they were completely hand ported .... Afr's flow numbers are lil higher than they actually are per thier website depending on what bench they are flowed on I guess... 210's 227's I'd look at .200-.500 lift numbers and see which is better then make a decision if using thier CnC services ...
