Default How do you tune a 1996 LT1?

How do you tune a 1996 LT1? Tunercat only list up to 1995. I know the makers of LS1Edit has a version for LT1s but it is quite pricey.

Thanks, Becky

If you want to do your own tuning then LT1edit is the best out there, IMO. But if you want a custom tuning, there are many sources available. Hypertech, superchips, and some others offer a hand held unit that installs a preset program and will allow you to make minor changes to rev llimiter, speed limiter, correction of speedo for tire sixe change or gear ratio change, fan initiation for cooler t-stat, etc.
Another way to go is to have the PCM flashed (reprogrammed) by a facilitator. This is where you get the most form flashing the PCM. they will flash the pcm for every bolt-on you have. The con is that you cannot make any changes yourself and it stands as is. One faciltator that I use and, IMO, is the best tuning and the best price is www.PCMforless.com Bryan Herter will do your programming and is very good at what he does. You might want to check his site because I think he is going to NC for a Dyno-tune for a club there. Also, he has available, if you have a laptop, at least a P133Mhz, you can load your own that he will e-mail to you. The programming is $50 (load yourself) $95 for the cable from a separate person (AKM cables), and $25 if you want lifetime free updates for any changes you make. Or you can do a PCM exchange. But for $170 and updates, you can't beat it.

This is for a customer's car. I tune LS1s with Edit and HPtuners, but I have never done anything with LT1s. So it still looks like LT1Edit is still our best option. Thanks guys for the input.

What do you need to do in order to do that? Do you need to switch the harness back to obd1 harness? I have a 96 and I swapped my engine with a 95 so now think I need to flash and program the obd1 pcm to get it to work, just want to make sure I know how to do it properly before I do anything drastic.

All you need is the OBDI PCM and an OBDI knock sensor.
