Msd I have an MSD digital 6. The dealer is trying to steer me away from using it ( already installed for around 20k miles). The tech at the dealer says that it has caused more problems than good on a lot of the LT1 cars. I have heard of some guys on some of the LT1 forums say that they have converted back to stock also. I had a really bad time diagnosing the car because i was getting good spark from the coil through the wire, however that was what was bad according to the dealer. Does the MSD really add that much horse to the motor. I do have nitrous that im might put back in the car, and i know this mod goes hand in hand with it. I have ran this msd with no problems before until this nightmare of a diagnosis came about.(the car wouldnt start etc stumbled at 3-4000 rpm) I even replaced my opti because of it. Any tips? Can i run the MSD with a stock coil? I had a msd blaster SS coil on the car before.
NA, aftermarket ignition is a waste on the LT1s our stock ignition is basically as strong as an aftermarket HEI. It can help with a poweradder but I think most of the benifit is from a spark based rev limit because the stock fuel cutoff could destroy a poweradder motor FAST and if you use it for a window switch that is great as well. I am not sure what all the MDS does for you but I know the Mallory will do timing retard, rev limit and window switch, as well as a "hotter" spark and it is relatively inexpensive considering all those features. If all you are using the MSD for is the hotter spark and not for anyting else then I say yank it and see if the car is better. Back when I was a newbie I wasted a lot of money on a Jacobs setup spent a lot of money replacing parts to solve a problem that ended up being the Jacobs box.
