Default Translater Plus?

Anyone using these? I just got one from a friends and am wondering if anyone who's used one can give me any tips. Ofcourse I know the best place to test it is on the strip/dyno, but a little pre-advice will be appreciated.

One of the 11 second b-bodies was using one of these, the owner swore it was all he needed to tune the car. It was heads/Cam Juice on a stock bottom and he had the suspension dialed in so well it was dead hooking. One way or another he was convinced to try pcmforless.com, honestly I think Bryan offered to do the tune for free just to show the guy and for the positive publicity it gained him. Well after the pcmforless.com mailorder tune he picked up three tenths and traction troubles. Moral of the story, don't waste time on anything designed to trick the computer just have the computer tuned right and you will be further ahead, and it will cost less money. You can get a custom tune for OBD1 for $50, or the software and cable to properly tune the car for under $200.

I know what you mean. I got it, didn't buy it. Just checking to see what it'll do.
I've been in the dark though, tell me where I can get the software and cables for $200 and I may jump on that one 'cos all I've seen is prices way over that.

http://tunercat.com/ $70 for the software plus $20 for the LT1 definition file
http://akmcables.com/ic.htm $35-95 depending on wether you want to wire it in and or assemble the cable yourself, the highend is a plugin preassembled. He is also a good place to buy a license for Datamaster logging software from for $95.
http://akmcables.com/dss.htm Here is a more direct link to the Datamaster software http://www.ttspowersystems.com/DM_Beta_Software.htm and you get to record with it 20 times before you have to buy, but by then you are hooked it is great.

So if you cheap out on the cable(do-it-yourself splice in kit) you can add the top of the line logging software and still only have a total of $220.
As far as tuning software you were probably thinking of LT1Edit, way more expensive($200), fewer tables to play with and lesser customer service, as well as being VIN locked to one car. The only pluses I will give it are slightly easier to learn adn they have an OBD2 version(VIN locked and something like $500 or so), Tunercat is working on an OBD2 version, word is cost will be similar to the OBD2 LT1Edit but it will not be VIN locked. I actually have LT1 Edit and Tunercat, I learned on LT1 Edit and am recommending Tunercat over it even though it is a slight bit harder to navigate AT FIRST.
