need help with a cam question???
need help with a cam question??? i bought a coustom girnd cam which is .585intake, .595exhaust, 235/242 with a LSA of 112+4. here is my question, what does +4 on the 112 mean. and what does this mean when you install the cam? Does this mean i have to install the cam advanced 4 degrees or im i just going to line up the marks form the cam to the crank?

The +4 is 4 degress advance built right in. Just line up the marks. The guys at Comp told me that most cams for our car (off the shelf and custom) are all +4 anyway. No special installation necessary. Your cam is similar to mine, what's your cubes? What injectors are you running? I had a post on injectors but not getting anywhere. I'm needing to downgrade and was looking for what size of injectors people had. I had seen both 30# and 36# in 396 motors and was wanting opinions.
He has a 383 on 30# injectors.
The 112 is Lobe Seperation Angle which is pretty typical for LT1s, tighter like 108 would mean a nasty idle with bigger peak numbers, wider like 114 will mellow the idle and produce less peak power but have a wider powerband and is sometimes used to bandaid the selection of too big a duration. The +4 was already covered, playing with that number can affect where the powerband falls too.

And to the cam question what those guys said are on...I just ordered a custom grind kinda like that...its 236/245 114lsa .569/.580
