lt1 top end

lt1 top end
is the lt1 really that slow on top-end??? im looking for a set up that will not only get low e.t.'s but will still be highway fast (no point in having all that power if u get passed by a little sport compact on the highway). i want to take on an lt1 turbo project, but all the talk about the crappy top-end is turning me off.

LT1 topend isn't the greatest due to the stock heads, but if you're planning to do something as major as a turbo setup then it won't matter at all since you should be swapping in ported intake and ported raised runner heads long before a power-adder comes into the picture.

its all in how you build the engine. for instance an lt4 or lt4 converted Lt1 with ported heads and a ZZ9 cam will make its peak numbers at or over 6000. thats torque and horse power. thats plenty of top end pull right there. theres also plenty of low end. a CC306 needs ported heads for optimal performance. that cam doesnt come in until 3000 or there abouts. it pulls very well to the top end. so dont listen to what those that dont know are saying. its all in how you build it.
long tube headers help tremendously. i finally got mine on after having them for months. its pulls very well, but there is always more there.

an LT1 is basically a SBC just a little different...
thats like saying small blocks have no top end, ....
not trying to toot my own horn but I've trapped 114 with a puny hotcam, and ported my own stock heads, first set Ive ever ported no less.

that has nothing to do with topend power. sure the flow numbers may not be that great when compared to say the LS heads, but again high lift numbers have nothing to do with topend power.

i dont think they have that bad of top end pulling power. but of course i used to own a 5 liter stang i raced a honda v tec that had bunch of bolt ons from a 70MPH roll and pulled him from the get go. i jsut cant wait to try out the nitrous as soon as two of my parts get here.
