Default The 383 Stroker...

I'm thinking about buying a pretty cheap LT1 with high miles on it (around 100K). I've been hearing some people talk about making the Lt1 a 383. I was wondering if the build is worth it for the car and how much $$$ it is? or are there better ways to make power out of an older engine?? any thoughts???

i am in the process of doing that myself and found a company caled speed o motive that does a budget stroker for about $2500. I believe it has a forged crank but the pistons and rods aren't. Check them out.

I see Forged stroker kits all the Time for under Two Grand. GOOD machine work will cost about $1000 unless you add After market Main caps.

Here are a few examples

This is a long block

Short block's

On the other side of the fence, MANY LT1s are running tens as 355s. just a thought... look at NHRA Stock Eliminator, stock heads, stock cubes + .040" max... and cams with no more than stock lift, but any duration.

LOL

OK guys let's kill this one now.

STOCK in NHRA is NO WHERE near what we call stock! Light wieght cars with more money in the motor then our cars cost really has little to do with the numbers a real Street car should post

we are talking fully gutted purpose built race cars. Only carring the bare minimum NHRA requires to make race wieght. Hell a bone stock LT1 can run 11s this way

Oh yeah and unlimited duration with stock heads means alot. the cars are built for one thing and one thing only.

Trying to drive one of those on the street would not be much fun
