Default Who tuned your ltx car?

Just wondering if most people tuned there own, mail order, dyno tuned, etc. And who did you go with if someone else tuned it? Just debating on who i should go to when my car is done.

Do it yourself! It may cost a bit more initially, but Ive probably retuned the computer in my car 50 times in a year, for different combos, and making sure im getting every last ounce of ET she has in her... Its VERY simple, if you can make power with a carburator and distributor, you can make power with LT1 edit.

I dont know a damn thing when it comes to tuning a car, nor do i have a laptop to carry around with me at the track. Id like to tune my own but dont want to take the chance of blowing up my own motor.

Alvin, the Chip guy for PCM For Less, does my tuning. Does a good job of it too. I'm learning how to do it on my own now too, and it's not that hard, but when you're starting with a new combo with a custom cam it's a PITA.

I use pcmforless.com for major work then tweak it myself with Tunercat. If want to tune yourself and you have a 94-5 do not waste money on LT1 Edit yes it does the job but Tunercat cost less than half the price does more and is not VIN locked top it off with better customer service and you really have a winner.

Agreed when I did my heads and cam on my Vette last year, I had another company do the tune on it...it ran Worse than stock I talked with Alvin at PCMforless and he sent me a chip for the Vette. It runs great now. For 92-93 Speed Density LT1s, Alvin is the best.

I have not decided what I will do when I start working on the SS this winter, since it has the OBDII setup.

I am looking more towards madz28.com because i've heard alot of good things of them. But i've always really waited to play around with it myself. How much $ and how hard is it to use Tunercat or LT1 edit?

Metalbeast if emmisions are not a concern you could do an OBD1 swap, tuning and logging software for OBD1 is much cheaper than OBD2.

LT1Camaroz28, I have had some dealings with madz28.com and wouldn't hesitate to do buissiness with him again, in fact once I make some changes I might have him dyno tune the car since he is just a few hours from me and pcmforless.com is more like 15-6 hours away. Tunercat is $90 with the LT1 definition file then you need a cable which is like $35-95 from akmcables.com to really be able to monitor things you need a laptop for just tuning a desktop you can get the car within 25ft. or so of is fine but for the logging you need a laptop. The requirments are modest at best and the latest greatest laptop is actually not very good for logging and tuning due to the slow speed of the pcm confusing it and many new laptops lack the serial port that the cable to connect to the car uses. The one I use was around $100 on ebay 200mhz, 32mb, 2 gig will work but I would rather see 266mhz, 96mb, and 2 gig is still OK. On the logging side of things TTS Datamaster is the best for OBD1 20 free recording sesions then it cost $90 I think, worth every penny. It logs all the engine and tranny data and will play it back just like you are driving or you can slow it down so you get a better look.

I've actually thought about going with the OBDI conversion, but I am still undecided. No emmisions up here in White County, Georgia

Bryan at pcmforless tuned my old setup back in spring/early summer and did a great job. Recently though he has screwed up a tune BADLY on my setup and caused my car to PING HORRIBLY. The tune right before it, it had a 11.5 to 12.1 a/f, even though I sent him a few datalogs and he had made adjustments from the orginal tune. Also, my friend who has my old motor got a tune from him and it was worse than a stock tune. I used to recommend Bryan, but I don't anymore. If you want a GOOD tune, I've always heard that CAM is the best in the country.
