Default Stainless Header Coating?

For Stainless headers, do you still need ceramic coating? I am going to save up for some of the new Kooks SS LT1 Headers, they will be close to 1G with coating, $800 un-coated if I am correct?

Opinions?

Thx,

thats the whole point of stainless, you dont need to coat them, besides after heat cycling they change all different purdy colors, mostly Gold.

The stainless grade kooks uses isnt easily coated. You shouldnt need to coat it anyway.

I would be using the Kooks Y-piep that they make. I have read elsewhere that the coating is not needed for that grade of stainless (Type 304)

Yeah coating is as much to protect everything else underhood as it is to protect the headers. With the stainless the headers are pretty tough but that does not address what all the heat they will radiate will do to everything plastic and rubber underhood. Just last weekend it was nice so a friend pulled his Camaor out of storage late in summer he had put on uncoated Hooker LTs and they already ate a secured wire just too much heat and it began leaking spark and jumping to the tube.

Guys we don't recommend coating our headers. It's completely unnecessary. Underhood temperatures are a non issue. A lot of folks don't realize that your stock cast iron manifolds create higher underhood temperatures than a set of stainless headers. Only on turbo applications where headers actually glow under boost is it necessary to coat stainless. But even then you need to have them coated in 2000 plus degree black. As far as I know there isn't any high luster 2000 plus degree coatings. Nick "Kook's Headers"

Twofast, Scoggins and Dickey has boat loads of headers in stock. Horsepower Engineering has some to. Either will provide great service.
Speed Inc's web site need to be updated. The pricing listed was when Kook's offered LS1 headers in mild steel. We no longer do so. Nick "Kook's Headers"

Nick I think wat twofast is referring to is that he wants some personal experience. I'm sure he could find a set if he wanted to. I think referring to another post that he is looking for ground clearance and ACTUAL examples of it not just someone talkin about it
