Default Balanced LT1

I am thinking about purchasing an LT1 that is already
balanced. It has the factory damper, rotating assebly
is balanced, but it has no flex plate. Will a stock
one work, or will I have to get a neutrally balanced
one since the internals of the motor are balanced?

I forgot to mention that the rotating assebly was balanced without the flex plate
and damper.

There are actually several methods to balance a rotating assembly.

1. Involves balancing the whole rotating assembly, balancer and flywheel/flexplate as one rotating unit. This way usually uses the stock type flywheel, which in the case of the LT1, has an offset weight to it.

2. Involves a neutral balanced rotating assembly, which requires a neutrally balanced flywheel/flexplate.

3. There is also a front/back balance like the stock LT1 uses. This is more of a "within a certain spec" type of balance. It uses an offset weight on the flywheel to balance it out within a spec.

Typically, a 'kit' that is purchased is 'usually' neutrally balanced and requires your flywheel to be neutrally balanced also. I would contact the people who put the kit together just to positive though. The wrong balanced flywheel can vibrate an engine to bearing failure.

So if the rotating assembly was balanced without the damper and flex plate, which are both stock, does the flex plate need to be neutrally balanced? I know the damper is already, but the flexplate has a little weight on it. Would this need to be taken off?
