Default Help on making my own catted y-pipe

Well, here's what it's come down to. I'm not satisifed with Kooks catted y-pipe. I want stainless (I'm buying long-lasting and amazing headers, the 1-3/4 to 1-7/8 stepped !air !egr Kooks LT's, and I own a long lasting and amazing cat-back, GMMG, both 304 stainless...the last thing I want is a lesser y-pipe). So, I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to build my own. Does anyone recommend any specific places to buy the parts needed? I have no clue right now how to do this specifically, so if anyone has any info/pics on how to do this / what is needed, it would be awesome. It's gonna be a 3" dual cat y with no o2 bungs. I know that at least TwoFast4Lv has made his own, so I know I'm not completely alone. Can I get a merge collector for this or would it be better to weld the two pipes together into another? What are the best cat's to buy? What angles do I need? As far as welding goes, can i use electrical arc or is gas a must...I've heard that the flux is pretty pricey for a spool when using the mig. Finally, I'm gonna have to get a drive shaft safety loop sooner or later, and I like the Spohn Torque Arm with the dual loops...does anyone know If I can get away with getting the regular adjustable TA or am I gonna have to use the one with the dip that's "made for LT headers"? Sorry for all of the questions, I'm just getting the whole project going in my head. Thanks again guys, lovin this forum.

Yes it is possible to make your own Y-Pipe and as you stated I made my own. I made mine because I have yet to see an aftermarket pipe fit ay where as well as I feel they should. Mine is tucked up nice and close but still maintains the clearance needed to not heat up any of the floor.

First things first. To properly weld Stainless you need a TIG welder. TIG welding is much like owy Welding only you use Electricity and not gas. It is an art all in it's own. I plan on getting a nice square wave TIG welder in the next few years. Seems I am subbing to much work out

This will be your biggest hold back on doing it yourself.

If that is handled then go online and search for Pipe! I know there are a bunch of places that sell the pipe you are looking for. You will need an assortment of bends and a few chunks of straight. Some places sell left overs fairly cheap

Then it is all cutting , fitting and welding!

Good luck man!
