Bye Bye 6-spd

Bye Bye 6-spd
Well, We have decided to tear out the 6spd and we are putting in a Bulletproof 4L60 to handle all the power coming out. We are pretty hesitant on running a 6spd through 16 pounds of boost. Not to mention, i would go through clutches more often then I fill my tank. A little update on the project, the engine is torn down and getting sent to the machine shop this week, waiting for new rotating assembly and supercharger. Tranny getting built next week. Hopefully everything will be finished by mid feb.

i dont know where you are getting your info from, but for the ability to handle tq (the real beast) a t56 stock will handle the power MUCH better than any 4L60e. esp if you want to beat on it regularly. the 3-4 clutch packs give up, and the sunshell, even if hardened wont hold up to massive tq. if you said 4L80e built or other big tranny, no problems. sorry just my opinion. anything more than 450 rwhp in a built 4L60e and here comes clutch slip city!

correct, as far as being able to cope with monstrous tq or hp, the borg warner t-56 is one of the best transmissions available reliability wise. the $l60e will slip and overheat FAST regardless of the buildup on it. there are 9 sec cars with bone stock T-56's in them.

You could have had that T-56 rebuilt from a few of our sponsors and it would have held up perfect. I have seen a many T-56s handle a lot of power, I dont trust built 4l60s at all, I have seen to many from reputable places go out when they were supose to be built with the best components. I would have kept the six speed, car would have been so much more fun to drive.

Reason I asked was If your building a track car why waste your time on a POS 4l60 when you can easily Install a TH400 for half the price Yet its much stronger. I once converted to 4l60 from 6 speed, (thats seems backwards ), but I did. Biggest mistake. I ran a 4l60 w/ a dummy 4400 stall and it lasted 2 weeks. Then I rebuilt a th350, put it in the car and lowered the stall to 3500. It lasted a month. Apparantly I cant rebuild TH350's. I had the 4l60 built by a PROFESSIONAL. Now Im back to the T56 and running strong. I sent the gears off and had them PRO-SHIFTED. Its' Awesome!!!!!!

From: LT1 land...the "409" of the 90s!
So I take it you guys missed the cars running tens at the Thunder shoot out on Crappy 4L60Es
Heck mine had over 50,000 miles on it when I Finally decided to open it up!
By then it had seen three motors, 14Psi of boost and Juice to boot!
I guess I am special
In the end ANY thing can be broken! I got started do transmissions because I was ripping input shafts out of TH400s! Once a month I was replacing input drums and 2nd gear 40 element HD sprags.
For beast drivers yes i would say the T56 is the way to go. they under stand the noise when they screw up...and they do screw up. I make more money fixing broken T56 parts then I do broken 4L60E parts

Unfortunately, no , the t56 isnt for sale. Buzzy Dukes out here in KingsLand Ga is doing the build on the tranny, Hell, he is the one doing my whole car right now. He definately recomended going with a auto instead. On the streets running 8 pounds of boost, yeah a 6spd wouldn't be too bad, but if im racing with 14-16 psi and i miss a shift in a 6spd............... BOOOOOM. I would rather not take that chance. I would rather have an 6spd, they are more fun to drive and such, but safety comes to mind. This build is costing me toooo much $$$ to take any risks. Not to mention I would rather have to rebuild a 4l60 then a t56, much cheaper like twofast4lv said earlier.
