While doing my research, i'll post up any good sites i might find. I would ask you to do the same.
Thanks,

There seem to be more and more enthuists out there getting a little sick of all this high-tech F.I. crap and going old school with a carb. Don't get me wrong, fuel injection is GREAT - when it's working properly. Too bad that's easier said then done in most cases.
I'm ditching my F.I. set-up aswell and going with a 750 Demon on my 396 build-up.
I'm sure eventually I'll go back to F.I., when I have the money for a really good high end system, but for now, I wan't to try something differernt.
The main reasons for my switch is because I, (unfortunately) don't have anyone in the area that knows how to program my ECM properly. Agostino Racing is close by, but there's no way I'm gonna deal with those guys with my hard earned money. I've seen first hand the way they've screwed people over - especially with EFI tuning.
A carb will be much easier (in my opinion) to work with then F.I.
Having a clean engine compartment free from wires, sensors, harness's and big plastic black boxe's is also a bonus.
When I have my motor back together, I won't be re-installing the A/C or Heating. I've already ditched the ABS, and in all likely hood, it looks as if I'll be going with the MadMan manual rack and pionion.
When I pop the hood on my car, I want to see nothing but an engine. A nitrous sniffing carb'd 396 stroker looking right back at me.
LT1 carb intake (Will a LT4 carb'd intake w/ LT4 heads work just as easy)??
Carb
Distributor
coil
ignition box
spark plug wires
fuel pressure regulator
Anyone add to that?
I also know you DON'T need the opti anymore, or the computer for that matter. All you need is the black (ground) cable and the large purple wire that runs from the starter to your ignition key.
I heard also that the power windows, power door locks, remote entry and all that other crap will still work beucase it doesn't run off the computer. True?
Also, manuel fan switch would still work if i'm correct but they would no longer turn on by themselfs becuase of (obviously) no computer.
EDIT: Also, does anyone know a good hood that will fit all of that? Or if not, what needs to be done as far as the hood to make everything fit.
The strut tower brace for an LT1 will also no longer fit correct?

LT1/LT4 Front Cover Plug - It's used to cover the hole on the front cover when the distributer (opti) is removed and a rear mounted distributer is used instead.
GMPP part # 12367600 Scoggin Dickey sells them for about $50 If i remember correctly.
Oh, and you're going to need an air filter that fit's under the hood too.
As far as getting it all to fit, most of the LT1's I've seen have all been race cars that used really tall singgle plane intakes. These intakes alone, pretty much sat above the fendor line and already required the use of a cown induction. (Don't forget the carb adds another 5 or 6 inches on top of that. The car's I've seen have also had to remove the entire winshield washer assembly, and cut a huge square opening in the dash to make space for the carb.
I personally don't see why anybody would go through all that trouble unless their car was going to be a race car only and they need MAXIMUM power with a single plane.
Odds are, I'm going with the GM duel plane. I'm going to grind out about an 1" or so out of the centre section, and possibvle add a 1" spacer if space permits it. It won't be a "true" single plane, but it'll definetely be worth some addition HP.
The GMPP duel plane, I haven't seen any pictures of on an LT1 with it but because of it's low rise design, you should be able to keep your stock hood (or ram air hood) without any mods.
Since no one else seems to have that set up, I'm very curious to see how well it'll perfor. I'm still shooting for 435-450 at the wheels N/A.
I feel very confident, I should be able to meet or exceed those numbers with the GM's duel plane and the mention mods already done to it.
We'll see what happens....

I'm not 100% sure about this though, so don't take my word for it. I hope I'm right 'cause I don't want to buy a cowl induction hood or loose my windshield wipers.
