Thumbs up Just got heads and cam installed

So yeah just picked up the Camaro, had AI Trickflow Heads, Cam, headers, TB, a bunch of other associated **** put on. I was up at Carolina Auto Masters for a few hours this morning for the dynotuning (great guys to go with for anything for people around the carolinas)and with 90k wires(onetouching a header tube, so that has to get fixed soon.) I pulled a Max of 410hp,362 tq. I think theres still more in it, I just need to get a few issues solved first. All in all I'm pretty happy though, and it pulls like a raped ape! I haven't recieved the for sure specs, but if I rememberright, the heads peaked at about 295 cfm, and the Cam was of the 236sih/242ish .600ish type on a 110 LSA.I'll have the specs when I get all the documentation in the mail. It's alotmore drivable than I thought it was going to be too. Doesn'tseem to drivetoo much different than when I took it in, other than the fact that the power doesn't stop. At least not to where we have the rev limiter set. 6700 is the limit it has on it right now, so I'll probably rev to 6500 or so and see where that gets me. Now I just need to go to the track and see if I can either run a solid time, or grenade the rear end, whichever comes first Hopefully option number one... Anyways, after writing a novel, I'm going to bed. Take it easy.

Glad its running good, but isn't 410/362 a little low? Hell I mean you got trickflow heads that are ported by AI and a BIG cam, plus what seems to be a good list of bolt ons and a dyno tune. I know the tune isn't the problem because I hear CAM is one of the best in the country and is always putting out good gains vs mail order tunes.

Hell, I'm betting my old setup with the baby cam(220/226) and stock casting heads by Lloyd Elliot will put down 400+rwhp/360+rwtq once it gets dyno tuned in my buddies car(cuz he bought the motor from me). It did dyno 377rwhp/359rwtq with a stock tune and only headers/cai/injectors in his car. Back when it was tuned by pcmforless and in my car it did 116.7mph in crappy weather in an automatic, and the best dyno in my car(stalled automatic) was 384rwhp on the pcmforless base tune and 380rwtq.

Just seems like you got a lot of money wrapped up in it for the power its producing. Post a graph, I'd like to see the curve on it.

Congrats....they do feel great. I have a similar cam 235/242 with just under .600 but on a 114...ported heads/intake and I was also surprised at the manners. I am very lenient at what is considered streetable and the streetability didn't feel any different than a hotcam.

Have fun with her.

Dynograph is on the bottom. We think the y pipe hitting the floorboard might be causing that dip in the midrange. We're not sure though. I'm working on checking into that this week... Along with OTVC wires, new plugs etc. I need to fix that #6... It still has more in it, so I'm going to try some things and bring it back up there with some friends. If anyone from NC wants to head up there, we're getting a group rate, like 35 a person.

Yeah thats dyno time, no tuning, but a bunch of us are going, so we're getting a group rate. When are going down there?

Full on list o mods are as follows:

AI ported Trickflow heads(not sure on flow specs yet, sheets in the mail, 295ish on the intake side is what I thought it was. Don't know the exhaust side yet, oh yeah they were also milled down to around stock CR)
Ai ported intake
AS&M 58mm TB
42lb injectors
Pacesetter headers and Ypipe
pro mag 1.6 RR
Ti Retainers
977 springs
pro mag lifters
SLP CAI
Trickflow elbow
Cutout
Shatty Flowmaster muffler...
Custom Comp cam (230ish/240ish .600ish lift, 110 LSA)
LT4 KM
OBD2 (Apparently I can get more power going with OBD1, which I might do here in the near future...)
I think thats all the power related stuff. I might've left somethings out...

Yeah... it's got a healthy lope to it With the cutout open, you feel the exhaust more than hear it.

Auto or 6 spd? Auto's with big stalls tend to eat the HP #'s.

Well Jeff said it was ok, Phil was a little disappointed. Today I just changed the 90k mile O2's and did an oil change(big power there), and this week I'm getting the OTVC wires to replace my 90k mile stock wires. Tomorrow I might try and fix the y pipe, and get it to stop banging on my floorboard. We might head up there later this month or maybe beginning of next month. I have about 7-8 people going right now. They're pacesetter longtubes with the pacesetter y pipe, It's a 6 speed. If that dip doesn't go away, Jeff said we can try disabling the knock sensor and see what happens. It does have more in it though...

Definitely post the flow sheet and associated volumes (Chamber CC, Intake/Exhaust Port CC) when you get it. I think you may have more head than a stock bottom end can deal with, or port velocity is down.

Hold on. Time out. Why is it everyone says its almost impossible to get 400+ RWHP out of our LT1s yet I am hearing 410-450 RWHP with some good heads and cam. To many pessimistic people among our ranks

Great numbers

One thing I noticed is that your cam seems to peak fairly low for the amount of duration you have. From the graph, it looks like peak power was made at 6300rpm. Did it seem to be breaking up at upper rpm? If so, those old plug wires could be to blame, or other igntion problems.

Just for reference, my cam is a LOT smaller than yours at 224/236, and it peaks at 6100-6200. I would think your cam should pull all the way to 6600-6800 without a problem. I think you still have power left on the table.

42lb injectors seem a bit extreme, do you have future plans to run a dry shot too?

A nice cheap mod that will definately pick up some power...a cutout before the crapmaster. On my old hotcam setup, I picked up 3 mph with the cutouts open at the track. My Flowmaster sounds nice, but it is terrible performance wise. I think my cutouts came to about 45 a piece installed (I have two cutouts, one after each collector). 3 mph is 20-30rwhp.

And great numbers...Don't let anyone tell you other wise. Get it to the track and let us know what it traps.
