Are you asking what it would take to make an LT1 keep up with a stock LS1?

If that's the case you would really need to be more specfic. For example are we talking A4 to A4, or M6 to M6, or A4 to M6? And what about years? A late LS1 ('01/'02) will usually go a little faster...

Since most stock LS1s run low 13s, and most stock LT1s run high 13s, the goal is to get the LT1 to run about 6-7 tenths quicker.

To get there you'll need 4.10 gears on an M6, or a converter on an A4, plus drag radials, a cold air kit and a catback. That recipe is good for low 13s on an LT1.

Having been witness to my friend's LT1 endeavors (SupraEaterT/A on here), and now his LS1 endeavors, I can assure you that it takes 'quite a bit' for an A4 LT1 (without a new T/C anyway) to keep up with a stock M6 LS1.

With a 3550 weight including a 'light weight' driver (me), my friends old 97 LT1 Formula A4 went 14.099@99.8mph. Only modifications were an SLP LM cat-back exhaust, lots of weight reduction (including little to no gas), and a K&N filter in the stock airbox (not drilled).

After that, the owner put on a full (from TB to filter) mandrel bent SLP CAI system and the car went 13.86@101.1mph (quite the bang for ya buck). Car weight was slightly higher at about 3600+ (car was still gutted, but had a different driver with more gasoline). Although after the CAI was put on the stock A4 tranny blew out 3 times so it was eventually taken off.

Now, almost 4-5 (?) months later, the LT1 owner has a 2001 M6 T/A. Completely stock, w/ a half a tank of gasoline or more, full weight (still had the spare and jack), on stock GSCs, the 01 LS1 M6 went a best of 13.4@99.6 (best 60' at 2.0, but missed 4th gear and coasted over the finish). Best mph was on a 13.x@108.x with a 2.2 60' (tires went up in visible smoke each run). Runs were made at HRP last month in a windy, but "cold" climate (mid 60s?). Track prep wasn't as good as usual (maybe they thought the cold weather would make up for the lack of traction).

Anywho, as for his old LT1, it was sold to one of our friends (Euclid on here), and so he was able to setup a race with it... No BS, from a 30mph roll on the LS1 had put 5-6 lengths on the LT1 (minus CAI, cause he took it off before selling the car. Still had the SLP LM though). Both cars had two people in them including driver.

He also beat Fairchild (sorry if I got your name wrong) from Houston Fbody (full bolton LT1 A4 car with a set of GeForce TAs and some weight reduction). They went from a stop twice; first race the LS1 won by a length (LT1 with a nice hole-shot thanks to traction), second race the LS1 launched a little better and won by about 2.

So, I think the lesson here is that if you're an LT1 A4, get yourself a good (read: Yank) torque converter and a nice CAI system, and maybe go on a diet (you or your car, which ever comes quicker). <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />

PS Sorry, no experience with the M6 LT1s. Also sorry for the long post, I'm not too good at just getting to the point apparently. Hopefully some of it helps you out though.

A cold air intake on an LT1 is worth about 10hp, or about a tenth. So in the case of my car, if I got one I'd end up running 13.79, still not exactly LS1 territory by any means.

There is a guy on www.mfba.org who's '93 Z28 runs 12.60's @ 105mph with the following mods:

-B&M ripper shifter/6spd
-Flowmaster catback w/cutout
-gutted cat
-4.10 gears
-Homemade CAI
-Drag radials and skinnies
-airfoil
-rear seats,jack&spare removed
-160 thermostat

That's it. It was witnessed by me and many MFBA members.

Hmmm...bang for the buck would prolly go:

A4 = 1.6 rockers, cold air, full exhaust (headers, cat-back) and a 2800 stall

M6 = same as above except 4.10's

Ofcourse there are other little things, but LT1 heads are the real weakness when comparing the two motors. The mods above will "usually" have the LT1 pulling away (not running away) against a stock LS1. I say usually because I have seen (actually been in the car) some freakish LT1's run away from bolt-on LS1's with less.
