Default Engine Rebuild/Conversion

Hey, I have a 1993 Z28 auto that just rolled 110k. It has a bad oil leak from the bottom which is probably the rear main seal or somewhere on the oil pan and it doesn't have heat which makes me guess that the thermostat is bad but other than that it runs strong. My goal is to efficiently build a high hp streetable camaro but my dilemma is whether to rebuild or convert. Is my engine worth the rebuild at 110k? Yes it does run strong but would it be better to rebuild, go with the corvette LT1, or go to a new LS1? I have heard that 2-bolt main LT1's are weaker and I should go with four bolt. Is this true? And if I were to rebuild it how should I go about it?

Depends on how much money you want to spend, If you go ls1 i heard but i am NOT sure so someone else should confirm but i believe the bellhousing to the transmission is different so you would have to replace your trans too but again i could be wrong, and you dont need to buy a corvette lt1 if you rebuild your lt1 any machine shop can make it 4 bolt main caps (again i think they can). I am forced to rebuild my car with 102,000 on the clock because the crankshaft endplay is .040 but from what i hear this is rare so if your only having minor problems worry about a rebuild later and just start boltin stuff on. If all you wanna do is go fast think about stuff like a big cam heads ported, NOS etc...lt1's can take up to like 150 shot from what i hear. 110,000 miles is not very high really.

I really don't want to spend all that much money but I am looking for a high hp engine that will be dependable enough to stand up to everyday driving

a ls1 motor your looking at 5000 to start and you have to get a motor and tranny combo.....the bell housings are different. Build your lt1 now before its to late and you mess up your block. you dont need a 4 bolt main unless your gonna produce 450 hp or so. two bolt will do just fine.....but spend 5 g in your lt1 and make a helluva machine......go with a custom cam dont by a production one.....get your heads ported....and by forged pistons and rods....stock crank is good for around 400 hp....but spend the money on heads....then start bolting thigns on....headers, injectors, tb, underdrive pulleys etc.....BUILD THE LT1
