Default True Duals??

Maybe this has been beat into the ground but after doing a rough search my question was not fully answered. I have a 94 Z28 with hooker headers. I want to run 2.5" duals to flowmaster 40 series and dump it just before the rear axle. It seems more people are running the y pipe then split into duals at the back? Any reason for this?

True duals dumped before the axle are loud, mine gets to me on a long drive. Plus you have ground clearance issues when you dual it out, some people don't wanna deal with that either. Some people don't want the drone or constant roar you get with the duals so they run it out the back. Some people have to stay emissions compliant so they have to keep the "stock" type exhaust. I have bullet mufflers on right now and I might as well not even have any mufflers. lol I've been thinking about getting some flowmaster series 10, they are small enough to fit under the car. Is there anybody running those and do they sound good, quieter than bullets?

The lil Flowmasters 10's are LOUD!!! Sound damn good though.

Do the series 10 have that flowmaster sound? That's what I'm after. If I'm gonna be loud might as well like the way it sounds, right??

Yea, it sounds like a Flowmaster in a way, but a little different. Its hard to explain. I had a 3in x-pipe with the Flowmaster 10series race mufflers and sold to a friend it before I installed it. I kick my own *** everytime I hear his car. Its a LS1 so its definatly different but there are a couple clips over on www.ls1sounds.com if you wanna check that out. Ill see if I can find some pics of my old setup as well.

I have hooker long tubes 3'' duals, mandrel bent gonig into flowmaster 40 series dumping under the rear axle it sounds ****** awsome

Most people "piece" thier own kit together but Texas Speed sells a true dual kit now called the Rumbler X.

Thanks guys, I was checking to make sure it wouldnt hurt the performance of the car rather than enhance it. I'm having a local guy who has made a good name for himself do it and he quotted me 320 with the 40 series Flowmasters, no cats of course.

Texas Speed & Performance is selling this true dual X-pipe setup for $419 (free shipping right now). A friend of mine has this setup and totally made a believer out of me that there isn't a ground clearance issue. He has a 2002 TA with pacesetter long tubes and a pretty aggressive cam. It was REALLY loud since they are just bullet mufflers that dump under the car. He ended up getting a local exhaust shop run pipes out the back which helped big time. I'm getting the same exhaust setup for my LT1. Only problem right now is, TSP is back oderred with these kits and I'm on like my second week waiting for it. I called and was told it will be probably another week or two. Ah well, I'll take pictures and video if anyone is interested. I already have video of My buddy's TA at a dyno run (before he got the pipes out the back). Here's the link for the TSP exhaust :

$320 for a true dual setup is a damn good price. I built my own x-pipe true dual exhaust with bullet mufflers, and it set me back between 200-250 in materials alone.
