lt4 hotcam on l09 lsa
Just wondering what anyone thought about a lt4 hotcam on a 109 lsa. There's a place here in dallas that sells these cams for $80 bux. Would it be worth it? Anyone used tight lsa cams in lt1's before? The guy told me it would have a rougher idle of course, but also more top end. Just curious.

Iv'e heard of problems with regrinds, but not any specific. What kind of problems do they have. The guy told me that he had some people with lt1's and lt4's that used the cam to say it was great, but needed good tune to run well in a 93 like mine (low vacuum at idle with cam). Would like some more info anyone has more.

First, you can't change LSA by regrinding, only lift and dur. to a point. Second an LSA that tight in a F.I. car would have horrible drivability, even with a good tune and any gain from that LSA would not be worth it. Much more power, milage, drivability could be had with the proper grind usually in the 112-114 range. With all the new cams today it's not necessary or worth the few dollars saved to have our cams reground. My .02

One of the MAJOR head cam package offers for the LT1 uses cams on a 110 or very near it with duration larger than that of the HOT cam, so it is not too tight just tighter than most people use. Most people want to use too large a cam then bandaid the manners with a wide LSA. I am not suggesting you get this cam for $80 it can not be all that high a quality and a bad quality piece inside a motor can destroy the whole thing. This is just someone trying to capitalize off the HOT cams undeserved popularity, move on and find something better. With the speed density you probably will want to stay near 112(most LT1 cams are) to make tuning a little easier and only consider 114 if blown or sprayed.

The guy told me it was some cam out of a caprice that was on a 109 lsa, but reground to lt4 hotcam specs. They also have two others a zz3 on a 109 and one smaller. I have the gm zz3 now and lt4 valvesprings and magnum rockers 1.6/1.5 split. Just wanted to go with something different and play with tuning. His wbsite is goautocenter.com and he works with strokermotors.com. He told me there budget cams, but people have used them with success. I'm leaning towards not getting it now, but just wanted some input. Thought it would be cool to try something different.

my 91 TBI 305 caprice's cam in on a 109LSA. However, it only has 179/194° duration@.050. The LT1 that came in the caprice, impala SS, Roadmaster, and fleetwood were on a 111LSA.
