Default weird idle and car feels like its on 7 cylinders

my car has a strange idle, it will idle kinda normal and then all of the sudden it will fell like someone revved it just a little bit it does this intermittently. the other problem is the car feels like someone disconnected a sparkplug wire. it runs like a dog under acceleration. i checked all the plugs and wires and they are ok. the optispark is brand new (3 days old) and all the connections in it are fine. could this be the ignition control module?

this is weird because i finished putting my opti in tuesday, got the car running perfect tuesday and wednesday. took it to the track wednesday and ran the best times it has ever run, then at the track, the ground wire that attaches to one of the bolts on the coil broke and fell off. i replaced it with a new ground wire, but ever since that the car has run with the symptoms above

my buddys car had the plug wires off the opti get ground into by a belt or pulley, cant remember, make sure your plug wires are arcing

Default hollow popping backfire at idle? and performance loss

i replaced my ignition switch and that fixed the key problem. now once i plugged my sparkplug wires back in and turned the car on, it started to make a hollow popping backfire at idle. it does it randomly while the car is idling.. i cant find any pattern to it...

also i have a loss in performance and the car feels like its running on 7 cylinders.. i believe this has something to do with my coil or optispark since the ground wire on the coil bolt fell off and i just replaced my optispark.. any suggestions?

heres the weird part... i started getting this problem thursday when i realized the ground on the coil had fallen off... the car ran wonderful wednesday which is the day i finished fixing my optispark... so i fixed the ground wire and thats when i started getting the performance loss... then i found a fried spark plug wire so i replaced it and thats when i started getting the hollow popping mixed with the same performance loss

Does it smoke? If it smokes on start up or after idling for a few minutes like at a redlight then it's valve seals. Could be rings too, do a compression check on all cylinders.

How old are the plugs? Are you sure that's the only plug wire that's burnt. Raise the hood at night and look for plug wires arcing. Are the boots pushed on the plugs real good?

is it on the electrodes of the plug or just the threads?

if its unburnt oil on the threads then it most likely is just coming out of the valve covers, either from the seal around the head or where the oil fill neck and bolts go through. if its minimul i wouldnt worry about it. if your finding puddles in the spark plug recesses then id worry.

well it looked like burnt oil but i cant tell... all cylinders pulled between 180 and 210 on the compression test and held it for 5 minutes each so im ugessing no blow by... maybe just got oil on two back sparkplugs from having it on ramps for a week and not touching the sparkplugs then tried to run it and once the oil burnt on it didnt run right??

I think that's a good assumption.

well i replaced all sparkplugs and still running like ****... is there any way that that little gear thing that goes between the optispark and the timing chain in an 94 firebird can be placed with the threads correct but then come out of place?
