I know in some cars you can do something to turn your check engine light off, i have a 1997 trans am and i wanna turn off that damn light....so if anyone can help it would be greatly helpful, and i'm sorry if i posted this in the wrong place.

 

You need to find out why it's on first. To do that you need to scan it for codes so you'll know what to fix if it's something "important". If it's on due to mods you've done like taking egr or air pump off then you need something like tunercat to turn codes off.

 

is there a way that i can do it without buying anything. like my buddies has a 2003 tiburon and he just has to unplug the battery and hold down the brake and it goes off. just wondering if there was a trick with the ta

 

Unhooking the battery will turn it off but it wlll come right back on eventually if something is wrong. Just go to autozone and get it scanned and see why the light is on.

 

if the light is on, it must be for a reason; so get it scanned and let us know what code is being thrown, and we can help you to see why your SES light is on.....

 

agreed. GM doesn't have the ses come on to entertain us. It means that there is a problem. Don't ignor it or you might find yourself if a bit of trouble. If your wife or GF had a light in her that would come on when she needed a doctor would you just try and find a way to shut it off?
