Exclamation Which parts are needs for 306cc?

My friend has LT1 96 auto, his mods are ratio 3.42, kit shift, ram air.
He wants to install 306. What parts should he change?

Springs,Retainers,Pushrods,Timing Chain, Waterpump (With cloyes double roller timming chain), ummmmm...........Lifters, Rocker arms, Computer tunning.....Then after all of this maybe in a few weeks you'll probably need some tires, Shiftkit, Stall.....Then you'll prolly need shocks springs (for better traction). Then you prolly need tranny rebuild. I better stop....

On my car it needed as follows to fully maximize the potential of the combo. cc-306 cam, 1.6 roller tipped rockers, valvesprings and retainers, I went with edelbrock heads and changed the springs, went with a stock timing chain and gear, new water pump, msd cap and rotor, msd 8.5 wires, jaccobs ignition not necessary, long-tube headers, magnaflow catback, obd 1 conversion not necessary though, custom programming, I put in a 3500 yank with shift kit and 3:73 gears, had stock injectors sonic cleaned, deleted air, and egr.
It went together nicely, idles like a dragster and pulls like a scalded assed ape. It gets about 11mpg in town and 12.5-13 on the highway. If you have a stick you are all the better off. But this is what it took on my car. It started out with the stock converter and it was a bitch to drive in town and died constantly , so converter fixed that. Custom programming is an absolute must.

I put in. Springs, retainers, new opti. New plugs/wires. Fuel pump. Make sure you have headers and some free flowing exhaust. The key is tuning. I could drive my car without a tune. But it felt like a completely different car after we tuned it.

Hey was up, Look here, you dont need to change your: opti, timing chain, lifter, push rods, RR studs, wires or water pump to make a 306 cam work...Like my dad always says "Dont fix it, if it isent broken!" ya it might be a good idea to change all that stuff but, if its working correct now well then leave it alone... Think about it when guys put cams in LS1s, you dont hear them say" ya changed the water pump lifters , timing chain, and all sorts of thing... TO make a cam swap all you realy need is good springs , push rods, and the cam. All you need to make the 306 cam work great is .
-30lb. injectors
-255 intank fuel pump
-the cam
-springs and retainers
-tuning

And to make it more simple all you realy need is
-the cam
-springs and retainers
-tuning

Yeah, and before you even break it in you are going to have a collapsed lifter since the springs are so much stiffer. If the valvetrain is already apart, why not do it all at the same time, especially if he is getting it done at a shop.

The only reason I recommended changing the cap and rotor and the water pump is becuase most of our cars are getting up there in mileage. I had damm sure rather do it once and know it's right, over re-using old parts and having to crap on a friday or saturday evening when I would rather be chasing *** or racing. Just my .02 to each his own though. With a 306 you do not take a chance on valvetrain parts.
