Default Gas mileage with cam?

I am in the process of buying a long block from golen engines. The cam that comes in their 383 stroker long block is a 220 230 duration 510" 510" lift 114 LS. I am wondering what kind of gas mileage i can expect with an M6 and 2.73 gears. Anything i can do to improve gas mileage? Thanks

I have that same cam in a 355 Lt1, with 3.42 gears and i see about 13-14 mpg city and about 19-21 mpg highway.....pretty nice cam, the power falls off at about 6100 in my car on stock heads....personally i would go bigger with the cam in a 383, especially since it wont make that much difference in mpg...gas mileage in an LT1 is all how you put your foot down...good luck with it

Thats the cc305 cam. I ran if briefly and I made about 20mpg on the hwy with a A4, 3500 stall, and 3.23 gears. You should get better with the M6 and those crappy 2.73's. Just curious though, why build a 383 if gas mileage is such a huge factor? Why not get a Honda?

I am 21 and i am not made of money like you sorry man this is my daily driver, plus i like the idea of torque. I dont want my power band at 6500 rpm where i will never use it. Not being mean just saying not everybody in the world want a camaro to race everyday. Some people just like the car. I can always go with a bigger cam later when i establish a decent career. With the 383 i have a great foundation to turn it more into a race car later when i can afford it. So please dont make fun of people who cant afford the whole world.

That is a pretty mild cam for a stroker. It's basically a Hot Cam. (.525/.525, 219/228 on a 112) Which is what I have (+ 1.8 rockers so it's more like .555) in my LS1. But I have 4.11s & a stall, so my gas mileage....HA, if you can call it that, SUCKS!

Yeah I'm no expert at all but that cam in a 383 will most likely act a lot like the stock cam. Why did you decide to go so tiny?

i get about 13mpg hwy in my stock 93 (with 2.73), i don't think speed density helps too much. Id have to agree with brandbo....get some piece of junk that gets real good gas mileage, drop insurance on the z while you build it up. Dunno, just my .02.

well this is the cam that comes with their longblock package. I believe you can actually buy anything you want from golen but i liked the torque curve with it. I am scared to have too much power because i have a stock rear end and i can never afford to buy a $2000.00 12 bolt, so if mine ever breaks i think i would just sell the car.

Also, how come this cam is considered smaller in a 383 than a stock bottom end? Does it make more power in a stock bottom end than a stroker? I am so confused on that.

Basically, you need to add more cam as you increase cubic inches. I would guess that motor will be a stump puller and get good mileage.
