Plus I get tired of other car guys knocking on the LT1. I like the reverse cooling concept and it works real well for a road race setup and has some detonation prevention advantages. It's not as week as one might think either.

I know of a somewhat local guy who has an older dodge truck that runs a reverse cooling setup. Cast Iron Heads, 12.5:1 Compression, on 93 pump gas

That's cool. I was at the engine shop today and I think we're gonna be too high for any pump gas setup, even for cruising. We did the compression cal and it's 13.5-1. Oh well, at least it'll bark. Oh, I solved my throttle body dilema, the motor now wears a 2100 cfm Dominator style Accufab on a Wilson 1.5" spacer

Very Nice setup... Quick question, do the heads have to be machined to accept reverse flow cooling, or do Nextel teams run reverse flow heads?? Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm very interested.

No question is a dumb one. They have to be modified to work with reverse flow cooling. Nextel Cup motors are standard cooling.

I'm getting quite a few emails and pm's asking how this SB2 stuff can be done. First of all, not to be a dick, we spent a ton of time and money figuring this stuff out. I don't mind answering some questions but not others. I don't think I should have to give up some info that cost me ton to find out. That's racing. I hope you understand.

Secondly, let me just express a word of caution to those of you thinking of doing this. Most of the front of the car had to re-configured to make this work. We spent alomost $20,000 on this motor. Nothing will go as planned and everything is custom. Not trying to discourage anyone from trying this. I'm just saying if I knew then what I know now I would have thought twice about it.

I'm posting these results not to encourage others to do this but rather show what an LT1 can accomplish.

As for the question, there are several companies that can convert reverse cooling. These were done at CFM in Indianapolis. Yes you have to use different intakes as well as everything else. I did a ton of research on SB2's and on engines in general and talked with several builders.

Man what a dick j/k

Best thing to do is read up. There are several threads on CZ28 about converting SB2's so get to searching. And while that is a very potent option....like Dave said, it's a very expensive route to go. There are other options out there for 15 or 18* heads and, depending on your needs, there are plenty of standard 23* heads that flow more than enough for most folks.

If you're serious and have the bankroll to back it...read, read, read and I would suggest to start calling some of the builders who have done conversions.

Beautiful looking setup! My guess is 850/650 with no jug assistance.

I'm so glad I passed up the $2500 deal on SB2.2 heads/intake/T&D/etc that i could have had. Building the rest would make me a sad broke guy with a sweet engine.

ROFL no year LT1 ever CAME with SB 2.2 heads (wouldnt that be nice). The SB 2.2 heads are gen 1 smallblock pieces developed for NASCAR.
