Took emissions test today, failed horribly.

find out if you can buy your way off.. my friend had a 91 rs and he failed... then he proved he spent 250 after the test to help solve the problem and he now doesnt have to get it tested again. of course..your short on money so i guess thats out... if you get a new cat...weld bolt on flanges to it so that after the test you can take that restrictive piece off and have some performance...good luck

Well I was going to replace all the plugs and wires today but I found out that they were all new autolite platinums (the ones I just bought). Wires are new also. Although the plugs were brand new, 3 were so loose that I could unscrew them with my hand. So I checked every plug, took it out, checked gap, and tightened them down. The job wasnt as hard as I thought it was going to be, drivers side is easy, passenger side is just a little more difficullt.
I took it to emissions again today just for the hell of it, I knew it wouldnt pass I was just curious to see if it would do any better. It actually did worse than the first time. The guy said "fuel is just being dumped into your engine." There was not even enough room on the paper to show my peaks on hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. Why could it be running so rich?
